st century audience, and Doogie is coming back. Except this time, he’s a she. It worked for

Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.Variety is reporting that Disney+ is spearheading the project, ordering 10 episodes of the half-hour comedy. The show will follow mixed-race Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha, a 16-year-old girl who works as a doctor in Hawaii. Just like the original, Doogie will struggle with practicing medicine in a world full of adults whilst simultaneously struggling with all of the growing pains that come with adolescence. Her mother, a spirited Irish woman who is also her hospital supervisor, and her father, a “Local boy” Hawaiian who struggles with his daughter’s coming-of-age, will also be a major part of the show’s storyline.This reboot comes from writer and executive producer Kourtney Kang, who was also behind
How I Met Your Mother, another Neil Patrick Harris vehicle.Ricky Strauss, president, Content and Marketing, Disney+, said
in a statement, “Thirty years ago, a young medical prodigy took the world by storm and left a lasting impact on pop culture. Kourtney and the team at 20th Television have created a very modern take on this beloved property which will resonate with our global Disney+ audience.
