Fresh on the heels of Beavis & Butt-Head returning to our TV screens comes another ‘90s cult classic cartoon, The Ren & Stimpy Show! The curmudgeonly Chihuahua and the doofus-like cat will make a return to Comedy Central nearly 25 years after Nickelodeon cancelled it in 1995. To quote our favourite cat and dog duo, “Happy happy joy joy!”“We are excited to reinvent this iconic franchise with a new creative team and our partners at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio,” said Chris McCarthy in a statement, President of ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group.  “Ren & Stimpy joins our rapidly expanding roster of adult animation including South Park, Beavis and Butt-Head and Clone High as we continue to reimagine our treasure chest of beloved IP for new generations.”
Nina L. Diaz, President of Content and Chief Creative Officer for ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group, also said in the statement that there will be “a new creative team” behind the show, so whether that means new actors voicing the characters or a new writing and directing team remains to be seen.Comedy Central has been looking for programming to go along with its main cartoon breadwinner South Park, and The Ren & Stimpy Show will join the Beavis & Butt-Head reboot along with the Daria spin-off Jodie. Ren & Stimpy first graced our TV screens in 1991 with its dark humour and shoe-string budget animation, but quickly became a fan favourite and was even nominated for an Emmy in 1993 for Outstanding Animated Program. No word on whether or not the show will be coming to a Canadian network, but at least we can all breathe easy that Ren & Stimpy’s classic tune, “Canadian Kilted Yaksmen” will finally be sung south of the border again.[video_embed id='2008150']Before you go: Tony Danza, Alyssa Milano sign up for 'Who's the Boss?' sequel[/video_embed]
