We’ve got a lot of burning questions after that epic finale...

Grey’s Anatomy tends to leave us on the edge of our seats with its epic season finales, and Season 18 was no exception. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) considering leaving the hospital, Bailey (Chandra Wilson) quit as chief, Owen (Kevin McKidd) fled with Teddy (Kim Raver) after police learned he had assisted sick veterans with suicide, and Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Catherine (Debbie Allen) went on a sabbatical.

Oh, and did we mention the Grey Sloan’s residency program shut down? Needless to say, we have a ton of questions heading into Season 19.

Some of them were answered in the trailer that just dropped... but not all of them.

“I’m excited to see what happens with Catherine and I,” Pickens Jr. told Etalk during Bell Media’s upfront presentation in June. “If the cancer has flared back up again I want to see how we navigate that. There’s a lot of room to play some stuff and I’m really excited to see where that takes them.”

But what about the rest of the characters? Read on for our Top 5 burning questions, along with everything we know heading into Season 19.

What will happen to Teddy and Owen?

Things don’t look great for this power couple after Owen’s past came back to haunt him. But is this really the last we’re going to see of them?

“I mean, I hope that’s not the way we’re ending it. There is still a lot to be told with those two,” Raver recently told People. “But you never know. You have to keep everyone sort of wanting to tune in at the end of September. I just think there are still stories to be told.”

The good news is McKidd’s contract is still intact for Season 19. The bad news is that hasn’t stopped this show from saying farewell to characters earlier than expected in the past. But we tend to agree with Raver—there’s definitely still stories to tell when it comes to these two.

Will Meredith stay?

We all want Meredith to find happiness and it certainly seemed as though she’d done exactly that with Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman). Unfortunately, her personal and professional lives collided in the season finale, when Avery (Jesse Jackson) asked her to be the interim chief. All signs point to Mer staying at least for now, given that she’s the lead and her contract was renewed for Season 19.

Then again, maybe this season will be all about setting her up to exit? Only time will tell.

Will Bailey return?

It’s hard to picture Grey Sloan Memorial without Bailey, but she’s clearly had enough of fixing everyone else’s messes. And really, who can blame her? That woman deserves a break. But she’s also not the type to break for long, so something tells us she’ll be back in some capacity sooner rather later. Behind-the-scenes Wilson’s contract is also good for Season 19, so we’d be downright shocked if she truly left for good. (Plus, she clearly makes an appearance in the trailer.)

Is Webber done with the hospital?

The former chief has helmed pretty much every role imaginable over 18 seasons on this show, and by now it’s a recurring theme whether he should actually retire. “I think we’ve pretty much touched on everything,” Pickens Jr. said about his storylines over the years. “Other than a story where I’m doing an operation on SpaceX.”

When Catherine and Webber do return from their trip, it will be interesting to see how he deals with the poor reception to the Webber method, not to mention the dismantling of the residency program—something he’s championed since Day 1.

What will happen with Amelia and Kai?

When Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Kai (E.R. Fightmaster) broke up we knew it couldn’t be for long — their chemistry together is just too good. So when Kai showed up in the parking lot in the finale to express their feelings for Amelia, it was one of the happier finale moments. But will their happiness last? Kai still doesn’t want kids, plus the whole long-distance thing is still an issue. Clearly these two are going to have to have a few hard conversations, but here’s hoping they can pull through.
