Nickelodeon star JoJo Siwa is only 18 but she has already made history as being one-half of the first same-sex dancing pair on Dancing With The Stars. As the first woman to dance with another woman, pro Jenna Johnson, the duo lit the stage aflame with their bouncy and vibrant quickstep set to Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl.”

Even though Jenna slipped and lost her footing for a brief moment, the pair scored the first 8 of the season and the judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough along with Len Goodman (he’s back!), raved with the live-in-studio audience. Bruno even gushed her performance was the "groundbreaking moment we've been waiting for!"

Even though the competition was stiff from the likes of The Talk co-host Amanda Kloots, Spice Girl singer Melanie C, Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore and Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby, JoJo ended the night at the top of the leaderboard with a remarkable 29 out of 40 points.

“Never would I have imagined to, first of all be here – when Derek said I was meant for the show, literally it’s one of my biggest dreams to be on the show – much less be the first girl-girl couple, much less have the only 8 of the night, much less have the highest score of the night! It’s wild!” she gushed post-show with Jenna by her side.

Speaking with GMA host Ginger Zee, who also previously competed on DWTS, Siwa gushed that it was “such an honour” to be the first all-female pairing, also asserting her wish that same-sex pairings “go on for a really long time.”

After the show was over, JoJo took to IG to happily share her excitement over the results of week one.

“That was THE BEST ever!!!!,” she exclaimed followed with emojis. “I can’t even believe that week 1 is over!!! @jennajohnson I couldn’t ask for a better partner! Thank you for taking me through this process while making it the most fun ever. The CREW on DWTS is so amazing, the CAST is all so fun! Making history and Top score of the night was literally a dream come true for me. Chase every dream you have and believe in yourself. Know that I love you all and I am smiling so big right now because of you, we did this !!!”

Earlier this year, when JoJo, who publicly came out in January and identifies as pansexual, announced she would be on season 30 with returning host Tyra Banks, she said in a statement via Deadline, “I think it’s cool, I think it breaks a wall that’s never been done before. I think it’s really special that I get to share with the world that you can love who you love, but now you can dance with who you want to dance with.”

JoJo, who has had some dance and talent competition experience before with her time on Dance Moms and Masked Singer, also told People earlier this year that she doesn’t think the competition will be easier for her because of her lightness of foot. "I don't," she said. "I explain it as a football player trying to play basketball. I also think, too, I'm going to be judged a lot harder."
