The Emmy Awards (A.K.A. television's biggest night) are quickly approaching and it's been a big year for TV because streaming our favourite shows is what has really been getting us through. (We welcome a good distraction from *gestures at everything*.)

Ahead of the 73rd Emmy Awards ceremony, This Is Us star Ron Cephas Jones and his daughter Blindspotting actress Jasmine Cephas Jones, along with Television Academy Chairman Frank Scherma announced the nominees for the September 19 awards show.

With so many binge-worthy shows that kept viewers all over the world entertained during the COVID-19 pandemic, it's going to be tough to pick some winners. Bridgerton, Ted Lasso, The Flight Attendant and Lovecraft Country are all in the running this year.

Netflix's The Crown and Disney +'s The Mandalorian tied for the most nominations on Tuesday morning with 24. Marvel's WandaVision was just behind with 23.

Michaela Coel's I May Destroy You finally got the flowers it deserves with 9 nods, including Best Limited Series. Coel also received a nomination for Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Cedric the Entertainer will take the stage as host for this year's awards show. Jimmy Kimmel hosted last year's Emmys, which took place at the Staples Center without an audience and most of the presenters and winners joined remotely.

The ceremony will return to the Microsoft Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, in front of "a limited audience of nominees and their guests."

"Since I was a little boy huddled up next to my grandmother, television has always been my reliable friend, so it is an enormous honour for me to host this year’s Emmy Awards,” Cedric the Entertainer said in a statement.

“Throughout the roller-coaster of a year that we have all lived through, television has helped us stay connected as a society like never before. It not only entertained us, but as it always has, it helped to open our eyes, educate us, and hopefully brought about a better understanding of who we are as a people. I can’t wait to take the stage to celebrate all of the great shows and performances that made us laugh, cry, dance and sing over the past year," The Neighborhood star added.
