Nobody had a better time at the Oscars than Alan S. Kim

For some kids, dressing up in formal wear and sitting still during an hours-long awards ceremony would be a serious bummer. For Minari’s youngest star, Alan S. Kim it’s an opportunity to cement one’s young self as a budding sartorial star all while testing out some sick new dance moves on the world stage: the Oscars’ legendary red carpet (stream the full Oscars ceremony now on CTV).

Kim played young David in the multiple Oscar-nominated film Minari from director Lee Isaac Chung, stealing hearts first with his onscreen performance and then again throughout this year’s award season (that Critics’ Choice Best Supporting Actor winning speech shattered the hearts of movie lovers everywhere).

On Oscars night, the BAFTA-nominated third grader showed up on the red carpet rocking a tuxedo and short pants accessorized with one striped sock. Accompanied by producer Chistina Oh, Kim struck pose after pose for the red carpet photographers, proving he’d definitely studied more than a few GQ covers during his young life.

And, while the adults appeared to be consulting each other about logistics or seating or some other dull topic, Kim entertained himself (and us) by sharing his moves.

First, he busted out The Robot, gracefully morphing into a tuxedo-appropriate dance we’re going to dub The Penguin. Check out this kid’s moves:

Due to COVID restrictions and rules, this year’s ceremony has been safe but a little tense to watch. (When was the last time we saw so many people in a room unmasked?) Watching a kid like Kim appear to sincerely enjoy himself has been a major highlight of this year’s Oscar celebration.
