Here are all the best tiny details from the Zoom Golden Globes

Jason Sudeikis in a sweater? Lee Isaac Chung's daughter? A Bernie cutout?

When it was announced that the Golden Globes (watch the full show on CTV now) would be bi-coastal and mostly virtual this year due to the global pandemic, we all thought it was a good idea. People can stay home! Celebs will stay safe! We might even get a glimpse of their homes, and perhaps their families! What could go wrong?

Well, it became very clear last night right off the top, when Daniel Kaluuya’s audio cut out while accepting his win for best actor in a supporting role (and they almost did him dirty by not giving him another shot at the speech, to paraphrase the man himself), that the awards were going to be less glitz and glam, and more 2017’s BBC Dad.

And if you thought Twitter was going to let those small, incredible moments throughout the show slide, you don’t know the power of the internet. Because they latched onto Jason Sudeikis’s tie-dye hoodie, Cynthia Nixon’s Bernie Sanders cutout, Jodie Foster’s pyjamas, David Fincher taking a shot when he lost, Jared Leto’s failed attempt to explode a glitter bomb, Ben Stiller’s grey hair and Jeff Daniel’s Zoom-Dad-vibe.

Fam, the devil works hard, but Twitter during a spiraling awards show works harder.

You may not have noticed Sex and the City alum Cynthia Nixon’s home décor as she joined the broadcast virtually from her home, seated alongside her family, but Twitter definitely took note of the life-sized cardboard cut-out of Inauguration Bernie Sanders seated with her. This is next level trolling and we are here for it.

Much like Jason Sudeikis attending the show in a tie-dye hoodie, and Jeff Daniels joining from the spare room in the frat house with the futon, actress and director Jodie Foster didn’t give a flying F about dressing up last night, and appeared alongside her wife and dog in her pyjamas. Jodie, same.

One fan even noticed an odd similarity between Jodie, her dog, and her most iconic film role…

That’s an image we won’t soon forget. Yikes.

Don Cheadle was also on hand to give us a GIF that henceforth shall be used during all awards ceremonies (and speeches in general). We are also low-key using this during the next this-could-have-been-an-email Zoom meeting.

Also, director David Fincher was either upset about losing during the Best Motion Picture Screenplay category, or he was playing a drinking game, because as Aaron Sorkin was announced as the winner, Fincher clearly forgot the camera was still on him and downed a shot. New drinking game! Take a shot every time Fincher takes a shot.

In between all of the celeb gags, foibles, gaffes, and missteps, there was inexplicably this guy. He makes the show peak pandemic, methinks.

Also, can someone explain when Ben Stiller became a silver fox? Because that is some zaddy energy, sir.

And in a show where everything that could go wrong did go wrong, Jared Leto, who was dressed like Phoebe when she got the hummus on her dress, tried to explode a confetti bomb and low-key failed.

Then of course, Jeff Daniel’s Dad-vibes set the internet aflame. Truly, was there a moment that went smoothly?

There were a few little moments of pure joy like when Minari won Best Foreign Film (which is its own controversy) and writer/director Lee Isaac Chung accepted the award with his ecstatic seven-year-old daughter on his lap.
