If you’ve found yourself spending more time in the kitchen during this quarantine (or eating 12 meals a day)… you’re certainly not alone. At this point, whipping up a Dalgona coffee, making bread from scratch, or baking banana bread is basically a rite of passage in the COVID-19 era and, apparently, celebrities are in the same boat — Selena Gomez included. The Rare singer has reportedly been spending more time in the kitchen than ever, and now? She’s inviting fans to join her. Virtually, of course.Gomez is officially stepping into the kitchen for a new 10-episode quarantine cooking show for HBO Max, the new streaming service that launches May 27th and will be available through Crave in Canada. She will also executive produce the series, and be joined (remotely) by a master chef each episode to tackle a variety of dishes. Move over Annie’s mac n cheese, we’ve got bigger fish to fry now (literally, perhaps). The show also features a charitable component, as each episode will highlight a food-related charity. The show is meant to be “casual, funny, and informative” while helping viewers, alongside Gomez in all her wholesome and likeable glory, to embrace the joys (and challenges) that come with learning to cook — especially during quarantine. In a statement, Gomez explained, “I've always been very vocal about my love of food. I think I've been asked hundreds of times in interviews if I had another career, what would I do and I've answered that it would be fun to be a chef. I definitely don't have the formal training though! Like many of us while being home I find myself cooking more and experimenting in the kitchen.” Impending dinner dates aside, fans were also quick to notice a change on Gomez’s social media on Monday. Bella Hadid started following Selena on Instagram, months after Gomez had re-followed the supermodel. Surely, fans remember when Hadid first unfollowed Gomez back in 2017, due to some drama related to their (now shared) ex-boyfriend, The Weeknd. And let’s not forget that Gomez recently gave The Weekend a shout-out in her "Cooking Together: Selena Gomez" Spotify playlist by featuring his song “Snowchild”…< So, naturally, fans were pretty thrilled over the prospect of a social media truce (or something like it), but unfortunately, it was short lived. Mere hours later, Hadid unfollowed Gomez yet again, further reinforcing the trust issues we likely all feel in regards to the social media tendencies of our favourite stars.
