Revealing that the coaches, including Clarkson, Jonas, John Legend and Blake Shelton have already filmed the Blind Audition portion of the show, the pair agreed that they are the two coaches who often end up fighting for the same singers.“I just want to celebrate that you’re going to be on
The Voice and I’m going to kick your tail,” joked Clarkson right before taking her second shot of Jonas' new tequila line Villa One. “I’m not gonna clap for that,” said Jonas, adding “It’s been a good little friendly competition so far.”“I’ve assembled a good team, I feel confident about it,” said Jonas, who admitted he thought Legend would be the coach he would battle with for artists, not Clarkson. “We like a lot of the same sound,” said Clarkson, who added that she had previously complained to her fellow coaches about another popstar coming into the mix. “I’m going to have to battle Nick-freaking-Jonas,” said Clarkson, joking “I’m like a mom. I’m so not cool compared to you.”
JoBros little white lie
Clarkson may not be feeling so cool next to Jonas now, but there was a time when Nick and his brothers Joe and Kevin used Clarkson’s name to get gigs. Clarkson said that while preparing for her interview with Nick, she learned that the JoBros opened for her in 2005, something she didn’t remember. That’s because it was only sorta-true.“No one cared about us in 2005. We were just coming up,” said Nick. “Basically, to get other gigs we listed the other acts that we had ‘opened up for,’ but that really just meant that we were on the outside stage of the parking lot while you were playing for 40,000 people. You helped us get a lot of gigs after that, so thank you.” Laughing, Nick realized there may be some financial compensation due. “We owe you 20 percent,” he added.The pair also talked about the JoBros current tour, which is a legitimate tour and not one taking place in parking lots at 11 a.m. before people show up for headliners. The
Happiness Begins Tour is finishing up its North American leg, including a stop in Toronto on November 26 and Montreal on November 27, before heading across the pond to Europe. The new tour caps off what Jonas describes as a ‘crazy’ year for his family, which started last November with the brothers coming together for the first time in years, a reunion that was captured in the
deeply personal documentary Chasing Happiness.“It all started with the documentary,” said Jonas. “We really had no intention of getting the band back together, but after filming for a little while and healing some of those family wounds that were there from those years of working together for years in the past, we were able to look at this with a fresh view and really all in different ways find our happiness.”Turning the tone from serious to light, Clarkson asked whether the band would have released the doc if the relationships hadn’t been mended. “We had spent money making it, so we probably would have,” joked Jonas.
