Kanye West is continuing the new chapter of his career and keeping his focus on faith. The controversial rapper and designer released his album Jesus Is King on October 25 and has now dropped a music video for one of the album’s most talked about tracks, “Closed On Sunday.” Filming the visuals on his sprawling Wyoming ranch, West made the event a family affair. The new video opens with West and wife Kim Kardashian sitting on boulders with their four sleeping children, North, Psalm, Saint and Chicago. The family are then filmed wearing oversized sweats and what look to be Yeezy clothing as they walk across the mountainous range. Eventually the rest of their family arrives in futuristic ATVs, with Kardashian’s mother Kris Jenner in attendance, as well as Kim’s sister Kourtney Kardashian and her three children, Reign, Mason and Penelope. West’s father also joins the rapper, along with many members of the couple's extended family and group of friends. The group is clad in Carhartt clothing and smile as the religious single plays in the background. The video then cuts to a scene of West surrounded by his Sunday Service choir, with the rapper situated in a god-like position as the singers perform the track while praising West. Kim and Kanye’s daughter North closes out the video by screaming “Chik-fil-A,” with the American fast food chain heavily referenced in the song and also the cause of the controversy surrounding “Closed on Sunday.”
In the lyrics, West praises the fast food chain for closing their doors on Sunday is observance of religious practice, rapping “Closed on Sunday, you my Chick-fil-A / You're my number one, with the lemonade  Raise our sons, train them in the faith / Through temptations, make sure they're wide awake.” It was only on November 18 that Chik-fil-A announced they would stop giving donations to charities that had been deemed anti-LGBTQ. West addressed the controversy during an interview with the radio station Real 92.3 LA and said that good actions should outweigh the bad. Okay, but there has to be another company that closes on Sundays and doesn’t discriminate. “Closed On Sunday” is the second video West has shot at his 6,713-acre mountain ranch in Wyoming, which he purchased for $14 million earlier this year. West also filmed “Follow God,” which featured the rapper walking through the snowy landscape with his father, Ray West.
In addition to Jesus Is King, West also performed his first opera on November 24 at the Hollywood Bowl. Nebuchadnezzar was based on the King of Babylon and featured music from West’s latest album. The opera was met with mixed reviews, which weren’t helped by the show starting two hours late.West appears to be planning a follow-up to Jesus Is King with Dr. Dre, posting a picture with the famed rapper and producer and announcing “Ye and Dre Jesus is King Part II coming soon.” In Kanye’s timeline that could mean tomorrow or in two years.
