The Global Citizen Festival 2020 lineup is here… and it’s pretty incredible

There are two things millennials are known to be especially passionate about: live music and world issues. The Global Citizen Festival, set to return in 2020, is the ultimate showcase of precisely those things — but with a star-studded lineup ranging from Metallica to Miley Cyrus, it’s sure to attract attendees of all ages, and from all around the world.The socially-conscious music festival was first launched in 2012, organized by the Global Poverty Project with an aim to bring together top artists, world leaders, and everyday activists to take action to end poverty — all while enjoying some pretty incredible performances. In 2015, the organization announced that Coldplay frontman himself, Chris Martin, would be serving as the festival’s curator over the next 15 years (we appreciate a man who is down for that kind of long-term commitment, TBH).The festival is no small function — actually, it’s a massive, worldwide event. Taking place over 10 hours and across 5 continents, next year's lineup is sure to impress even the most selective music fans. The lineup (so far) includes Metallica, Lizzo, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, Eddie Vedder, H.E.R., Janelle Monáe, Muse, Ozuna, Ozzy Osbourne, Pharrell Williams, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shawn Mendes, Usher, and… should we go on? No, literally, there’s more, and they’ve already teased that other artists and celebrities will be announced in coming months.

The initiative #GlobalGoalLive, will culminate next year — precisely a year from today, in fact — streaming live from concert hubs around the world including New York, Nigeria and cities in Latin America, Europe and Asia.Unlike other mega-festivals that boast a steep cost of entry (cough cough, Coachella) Global Citizen Festival is free. No really, you read that right, it’s free. There is a small catch, but it’s pretty awesome in our opinion…Here’s how it works: Free entry is granted to any global citizens who take a series of actions to create lasting change around the world. Winners are drawn and granted two tickets to the highly anticipated affair. Pretty cool, eh?If this has you thinking back to another large-scale, star-studded charity concert, you’re right. Drawing parallels to Live Aid benefit concert in 1985 and Live 8 concerts that began in 2005, the festival’s organization hopes to bring attention to major, worldwide issues, while asking governments, leaders and activists around the globe to take action.Global Citizen is no stranger to large-scale change, as the festival organization has reportedly already secured nearly $38 billion in commitments toward the UN’s Global Goals from governments, companies, and foundations.

Before those stars hit the stage in 2020, this year's Global Citizen Festival is taking place this Saturday and will feature performances from Queen, H.E.R, Adam Lambert, Pharrell Williams and Alicia Keys, with Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness as hosts.
