It seems as though Taylor Swift has put her best tail foot forward for the upcoming film, Cats. The Grammy-award winning singer will not only act alongside the likes of Judi Dench, James Corden, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, and Rebel Wilson, but she'll also contribute an original song to the fantasy musical called, “Beautiful Ghosts.”
T-Swift, who plays Bombalurina, wrote “Beautiful Ghosts” spontaneously alongside composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, for ballet star Francesca Hayward, who will perform the song starring in the central role of Victoria. Judi Dench, who plays the wise Old Deuteronomy, will also sing a 30-second reprise “Beautiful Ghosts” during the film. But, don’t you worry, Swifties. T-Swift’s own version will play during the film’s credits – so stick around!Directed by Tom Hopper (who’s credited for Les Miserables), Cats is based off of the long-standing musical by the same name and follows a tribe of cats called the Jellicles over the course of one night as they decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer. Set to release during the Christmas season, Cats has already been making a buzz, not for its odd description, but thanks to the even weirder trailer released a few months ago. If you’ve ever wondered what Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, and James Corden look like as a cat, we urge you to watch the video below.Though we don’t know about T-Swift’s acting skills (her performance in Valentine’s Day is still etched into our brains), one thing’s for sure – she sure does know how to write a good song. “Beautiful Ghosts” will allow Cats to be eligible for best song awards at the Oscars, Golden Globes and all of the other end-of-year movie honours. Here’s hoping Cats is the purrfect topper to celebrate year 13 of Taylor’s career, which the singer happens to be celebrating today.
Catch Cats in theatres on December 19, 2019.
