Taylor Swift needs to make some room on her mantle. The singer was just announced as the recipient of the Artist of the Decade Award at the American Music Awards, and will accept the award at the November 24 show. She’ll also perform a medley of hits from her 13-year, seven-album career. In 2008, Swift took home her first AMA for Favourite Country Female Artist. Since then, she’s racked up a total of 24 awards, including this year's honour, making her the most awarded female musician in AMA history. Swift is now tied with Michael Jackson in total AMAs, with the King of Pop also collecting 24 wins over his career.Up for five awards this year, Swift could pass Jackson’s record if she takes home an award in any of her nominated categories, including Artist of the Year, Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist, Favourite Pop/Rock Album for Lover, and Favourite Music Video for “You Need To Calm Down.” Swift has won Artist of the Year four times at the AMAs and was previously awarded the Dick Clark Award for Excellence in 2014."Taylor's impact on music this decade is undeniable and her performances on the American Music Awards have been truly spectacular," said Dick Clark Productions' executive VP of programming and development Mark Bacco. "We're thrilled to honor her as our artist of the decade and can't wait for her to blow everyone away with an epic, career-spanning performance unlike any other!"Swift is the sixth person to win the Artist of the Decade award, and the first woman. Country artist Garth Brooks was the first recipient in 2000, with the AMAs then going back to present the award for previous decades. Swift is in good company, with Elvis Presley winning the award for the 1950s, The Beatles for the 1960s, Stevie Wonder for the 1970s and Michael Jackson for the 1980s.The news of Swift’s historic AMA award caps off what has been a huge year in the singer’s already impressive career. In April, Swift teamed up with Brandon Urie to release her new single “Me!” and earned 65.2 million views in the first day, breaking the Vevo record. Swift went on to release her second single “You Need To Calm Down,” with Taylor reuniting with friend Katy Perry in the song’s music video. Swift also made headlines when her former label Big Machine Records was sold to manager Scooter Braun, who Swift called an "incessant, manipulative bully" and announced that she would re-release all her previous material once she was legally allowed to do so. Add in a number one Billboard debut for Lover, a performance and multiple wins at the MTV Music Awards, a performance on SNL, a return to The Voice, an appearance in the upcoming Cats movie, and the announcement of her upcoming Lover Fest tour and 2019 has already been a massive year for Swift. The AMAs will air on CTV Sunday, November 24, at 8 p.m. ET.[video_embed id='1816064']Taylor Swift guest judges 'The Voice' and jokingly shades Blake[/video_embed]
