We may only be two weeks into 2020, but this year is set to offer fans unparalleled access into the lives of their favourite celebrities. Sure, MTV Cribs might be a thing of the past, but now we have the next best (or perhaps even better) thing — high budget documentaries giving us access to our favourite stars.First, Amazon locked in the rights for Rihanna’s upcoming documentary, then Kevin Hart delighted fans with his documentary series Don’t F*ck This Up. A few weeks later came Justin Bieber’s announcement of a 10-part documentary aptly titled Justin Bieber: Seasons. And now? We have another high-profile documentary to add to our ‘must-watch’ list… Taylor Swift’s Miss Americana. While the documentary was announced last fall, T-Swift dropped huge news Wednesday evening as she revealed the documentary is dropping January 31st on Netflix AND in select theatres. According to the synopsis shared to the streaming platform, the film gives fans an inside look as “Taylor Swift embraces her role as a songwriter and performer — and as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.”

The doc, directed by Lana Wilson, was rumoured to have run into some unexpected delays on account of Swift’s ongoing feud with former manager Scott Borchetta, and Scooter Braun. According to the singer, Braun was declining to license her music (and performance clips) for use in the film. And if you’re wondering “How is that possible, isn’t the music hers?” Well, yes, of course it is… only, Braun currently owns the copyright to her first six albums. Yeah, not an ideal arrangement for Taylor.[video_embed id='1833414']RELATED: Taylor Swift takes aim at Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun[/video_embed]Swift later claimed that Braun would grant her license to her music only on the condition that she stop talking about him, and agreed to not re-record the material later this year. Fortunately, the rights to her trademark anthems have been cleared, and the documentary will still have its big premiere on January 23rd at the Sundance Film Festival. Two more weeks, Swifties, and then we'll all need to calm down and head straight to the theatre.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: The 'Cats' cast promise a whole new side of Taylor Swift[/video_embed]
