Okay, don’t freak out… but also, get ready to freak out. After months of fan speculation (or perhaps, just wishful thinking on our part) as to whether or not Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber are working on a collaboration, it seems we might finally have an answer. Well, kind of.In a recent interview with Capital Breakfast, Shawn Mendes admitted that turning down a collaboration with Justin Bieber would be absolutely insane (which, we agree) and, although elusive, his cheeky answer gave the internet hope that this might be happening for real. So, are Canada’s princes of pop coming together to gift us with new music? While playing a “little game named ‘I Wonder If It’s True” (as a playful nod to the Canadian heartthrob’s new single Wonder), the radio hosts asked, “I wonder if it’s true, Shawn, that you turned down a collaboration with Justin Bieber last month?”“Is this you trying to get me to confirm that I have a collaboration with Justin Bieber?” Mendes replied with a slight smirk, before continuing on. “If I turned one down, that would be insane, considering he’s been one of my favourite artists since I was like nine years old.”“I cannot confirm or deny”, he adds with another smirk, at which point it's pointed out that the pair were, in fact, recently spotted together.[video_embed id='6190993576001']WATCH: Shawn performs a Stevie Wonder classic.[/video_embed]“So, in the last six months, we’ve definitely become a lot closer… You know, to have the same type of life. It’s really cool to have him as a mentor in a lot of ways, just to kind of talk through stuff with, because there’s not many people who do this type of stuff. But um, anyways, back to your question because I’m now sidetracking on purpose,” Mendes offered with a smile and shrug. We don’t know about you but "sidetracking on purpose" seems as though he’s afraid he might let something slip… and well, both the singers have new music slated for release in the very near future.
Fans also likely noticed that Mendes already teased a collab on his upcoming album. And for what it’s worth, this famous friendship has been a long time coming. Over the past few years, fans often wondered if there was friction between the two stars, both on account of their careers and their dating history (cough cough, Hailey Bieber).[video_embed id='2041630']WATCH: Dan + Shay were least famous guests at Bieber's wedding.[/video_embed]In April 2019, when Mendes graced the cover of Observer Magazine with the title "Prince of Pop”, Bieber commented on the Instagram post saying, “Gonna have to break a few more records to dethrone my title there bud (Canadian voice)… but if you want we can play hockey for it but I heard your a real bender on the ice we could just drop the buckets and tilt for it.”

Fans were quick to assume Bieber was throwing shade, but both singers chimed in to clarify that it was nothing but playful banter. Mendes even replied, “LOL any time any day you just let me know!!!!!!”The two were also recently featured in a video shared by Scooter Braun, which showed Mendes playing the piano while Bieber sang along with Tori Kelly.

And in case you still had doubts, Biebs and Mendes were also recently spotted at the same music studio, and they were both in attendance at Lucian Grange‘s Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony back in January.

Did Biebs and Mendes just become best friends? We think so. [video_embed id='2050169']BEFORE YOU GO: Chris Pratt under fire for insensitive voting post[/video_embed]
