Rihanna just dropped her first new song in over 2 years

The Rihanna Navy is rejoicing right about now thanks to a very welcome distraction by the one and only “Umbrella” singer. While many artists are putting projects on hold (hey there, Lady Gaga) and postponing tours amidst the current coronavirus pandemic, Rihanna and Canadian singer PartyNextDoor have given their fans something new to jam out to while socially distancing this weekend.Early on March 27, RiRi revealed the track, “Believe It,” in an announcement on Twitter promoting the song and PartyNextDoor’s newly released album, PartyMobile, to her nearly 96 million followers. Rihanna is featured on the song, making it the first time she’s belted out something new for fans in over 2 years. “Believe it!! @partynextdoor album live!!!” the singer wrote alongside a snippet of the song and a link to stream it.

It’s the good news Rihanna fans have been hoping for. After all, the last time she released solo material was in 2016 via her album Anti. She’s been teasing new music ever since, and it’s left fans feeling pretty antsy. Among those fans? Another Canadian rapper that you may have heard of: Drake. Long, complicated history aside, the “friends” were tuning into DJ Spade’s live stream on Instagram on March 24 when Drizzy started jabbing the singer in the comments. “Rihanna drop R12 right now,” he wrote.Look, Rihanna hasn’t confirmed when a new album, which would be her ninth, could be coming. But she’s definitely back in the studio working, which she revealed last month on her Instagram stories. At the time she shared a photo of a soundboard in a recording studio and teased potential a collaboration with The Neptunes, aka Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams.Should the album be delayed for longer, fans will have to forgive the singer. After all, she’s been kind of busy lately running her fashion and beauty lines, not to mention preparing inspiring speeches and joining in with her fellow celebs to help fight COVID-19. It was only a week ago that her Clara Lionel Foundation donated $5 million to help the global coronavirus response, money that will be spent trying to help protect those in marginalized communities in the U.S., the Caribbean and in Africa.“Never has it been more important or urgent to protect and prepare marginalized and underserved communities–those who will be hit hardest by this pandemic,” foundation spokesperson Justine Lucas said at the time.Unlike many other celebs who have spoken out on social media about the current pandemic and used their platforms to urge social distancing, Rihanna has been pretty quiet.
