If you spent the last month singing along to Mariah Carey’s "All I Want For Christmas Is You" on repeat, you're not alone. According to Billboard's Hot 100 list, a LOT of people were feeling the 1994 classic this year — enough to set an incredible new record. Thanks to her holiday hit, Mariah just became the first artist to top the Hot 100 list in four consecutive decades. Yes, you read that right. Four. Consecutive. Decades. Here’s how it happened: every year around this time, Carey finds her way back onto the charts, without having to even release new music. All it takes is her trademark holiday anthem, written by the 'elusive chanteuse' herself and co-writer Walter Afanasieff. This year, however, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" actually came in at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart for, believe it or not, the first time ever. It looks like all Carey wanted for Christmas was to reclaim her Billboard throne… and, no big deal, make music history while she was at it. Talk about ending 2019 on a high note (pun definitely intended). Now, let's break it down. With “All I Want for Christmas is You” topping the Hot 100 list for the third week in a row, it becomes the first No. 1 of 2020 (with this week's chart dated Jan. 4, 2020.) The song itself is Mariah’s 19th No. 1 hit (the most of any solo artist ever), after she graced fans with chart toppers in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. And so, it’s official: the multi-talented singer-songwriter has created music that can stand the test of time — literally, ruling the charts (and the airways) across decades. Pretty impressive, if you ask us… or her fans. Especially her fans. Mariah also chimed in on Twitter, of course, with no shortage of exclamation marks and emojis (can you blame her???) The star also hilariously added on, “But… what’s a decade?” because when you’re as famous as Mariah Carey, age is just a number — and by number, we strictly mean the number of weeks spent on Billboard charts, obviously. There’s no denying it, Mariah Carey is a legend, and “All I Want for Christmas is You” is the gift that keeps on giving.[video_embed id='1822255']RELATED: Mariah Carey re-releasing famous Christmas album in some unique ways[/video_embed]
