Mariah Carey announces an all-star celeb lineup for her Christmas special

It’s not Christmas until Mariah Carey says so and it is now officially the holiday season. Not only did Carey usher in the holidays earlier this month, but the queen of Christmas has now announced her latest holiday special and it has more star power than all 88 years of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree combined.Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special will arrive on Apple TV on December 4 and feature some of the biggest names in music and entertainment. As if Mariah Carey wasn’t already enough of a draw on her own, the superstar will be joined by (Little Drummer Boy drumroll please) Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Tiffany Haddish, Billy Eichner, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Misty Copeland and Mykal-Michelle Harris, who starred in last year’s remake of Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” music video. Dem babies a.k.a. Admittedly, that was a lot of A-listers to take in all at once, so let’s highlight some crucial information. Mariah. Arianna. J Hud. Not only will the three divas be appearing together at the same event, they are going to be performing Carey’s 2010 single “Oh Santa!” and releasing a music video for the remix. How a three-minute song is going to handle that many octaves at once is beyond us, but we have already cleared our holiday playlist to make room for what will undoubtedly be the greatest Christmas single of all time. Or at least the second greatest.

“Oh Santa!” will be part of the soundtrack for the new holiday special, which will also include several performances by Carey, as well as performances by Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri and a new version of the single “Sleigh Ride.” The soundtrack and “Oh Santa!” music video will also drop December 4 on Apple Music and be available on all other platforms starting December 11.Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special will be executive produced by Carey, Ian Stewart, Raj Kapoor, Ashley Edens and written by Caroline Fox. According to Apple’s news release, BAFTA Award winner Hamish Hamilton and Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Roman Coppola will direct and serve as executive producers.Apple also released a synopsis for the special in today’s announcement. “Faced with a holiday cheer crisis, the North Pole knows there's only one person who can save the day: Santa's great friend, Mariah Carey. Combining musical performances, dynamic dancing and groundbreaking animation, the undisputed Queen of Christmas jumps into action to create a holiday spectacular to make the whole world merry.” All we want is for it to be December 4 already.Following the release of Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, Carey will sit down with Apple Music host Zane Lowe to share her personally curated list of holiday songs and discuss her new memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, which was released in September. In 2017, she lent her voice to the animated feature film All I Want For Christmas Is You, which was based on her massive song of the same name. First appearing on her 1994 holiday album Merry Christmas, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” remains one of the best selling singles of all time.
