After the possible leak of the nominees yesterday, the actual nominations for the 62nd Grammy Awards have officially been announced with Lizzo, Billi Eilish and Lil Nas X leading the pack. The announcement was made on Wednesday morning by 15-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys, along with TV reporter Gayle King, two-time Grammy nominee Bebe Rexha, Recording Academy president/CEO Deborah Dugan and chair of the board of trustees Harvey Mason Jr.This year’s nominees delivered on the academy’s promise to be more diverse, with an increase in female nominees, including Lizzo, who is up for eight nominations and Billie Eilish, who earned six nominations. Both newcomers are represented in the biggest categories, including Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. After reading the all-female list of nominees for Best Solo Pop, which includes Eilish and Lizzo as well as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Ariana Grande, Dugan happily remarked, “That’s a lot of women. Just saying.”
Still going down that 'Old Town Road'
Lil Nas X also had a huge showing, with the “Old Town Road” rapper up for a total of six awards including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Pop Dup/Group Performance, and Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Panini.”Lady Gaga earned three nominations for her work on the soundtrack to A Star Is Born
, including Song of the Year for “Always Remember Us This Way” (Gaga’s “Shallow” won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Song Written For Visual Media 2019 Grammys and was the only song from the soundtrack that was eligible for a nomination last year). Taylor Swift earned nominations for Best Pop Solo Performance for “You Need To Calm Down” and Song of the Year for “Lover,” as well as Best Pop Vocal Album for Lover
but was surprisingly shut out of Album of the Year.
Ariana Grande also had a big year, with the pop star earning five nominations including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Boyfriend” and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Canadians were represented on the 2020 nomination list, including Toronto's Daniel Caesar, who is nominated for Best R&B performance his Brandy-duet “Love Again.” Shawn Mendes received one nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his “Señorita” collab with girlfriend Camila Cabello, while Michael Bublé earned a nod for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Love.
Comedy Coming in Hot
With every comedian and their cousin who also does comedy getting a Netflix special this year, the Comedy Album category is looking loaded. The section sees new comedy heavyweights like The Daily Show

) and Aziz Ansari (Right Now
) up against the old guard of Ellen DeGeneres
) and Dave Chappelle (Sticks &
Stones). After noms were announced (and he had woken up) Trevor Noah made a heartfelt post on Instagram that pretty well summarizes the stellar talent in the category. He finished by thanking his mom (the Patricia of whom he is the son).
Some winners have already been announced for the upcoming show, including Dr. Dre
, who will be presented with the 2020 Producers and Engineers Wing Award during Grammy Week in January. Alicia Keys is returning to host the ceremony
once again when it airs live on Sunday, January 26, 2020.[video_embed id='1828977']RELATED: Alicia Keys is returning as the Grammys hosts[/video_embed]
