Over the last few weeks, the continued spread of COVID-19 has left communities around the world facing rather uncertain times, coupled with strict orders to practice social distancing. For many of us, this feels like a pretty unnatural shift. What do you mean we can’t get our morning oat milk latte from our favourite cafe? We can't meet up with our new Tinder matches for at least two weeks? There's a shortage of toilet paper? We definitely weren’t prepared for this. All jokes aside, nothing is off the table in the on-going effort to contain the rapidly spreading virus, and that includes widespread cancellation of public events. Professional sports, the ACM Awards, concerts—all (heartbreakingly) canceled. Fortunately for fans stuck at home, celebrities like Keith Urban and John Legend have decided to get creative.Utilizing the power (and far-reaching accessibility) of Instagram Live, musicians are taking to social media to perform fan-favourite hits for anyone who tunes into the livestream. On March 16, Keith Urban went live on Instagram with his wife, Nicole Kidman, in the background, whom he called his 'audience of one'. The star was supposed to be playing a show in Texas Monday night, which was called off, and he's also one of the acts slated to perform on the now-cancelled ACM Award Sunday, April 5. The annual awards show will reportedly move to September.[video_embed id='1832061']RELATED: Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s first dance shocked their wedding guests.[/video_embed]Urban followed in the footsteps of Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin, who used his platform earlier in the day to show his fans some love and support during trying times. On Twitter, the singer said, ”I hope you and your family are safe and healthy. If anyone feels like chatting and listening to some music, I’m going to do a livestream on the Coldplay Instagram," along with the hashtag #TogetherAtHome.Never to be outdone, though, John Legend was quick to follow suit. Expressing praise for Martin’s decision to share his music over the platform, Legend announced that he will do the same Tuesday at 1PM Pacific time, also sharing the hashtag #TogetherAtHome. Even better? Legend said he’s taking requests (“All of Me” please!) and asked his followers to tell him which other artists he should “pass the torch to.” Looks like Chrissy Teigen may be joining the livestream too! That’s not all, though. Canadian actor, Stephan Amell posted that he will be going live on Instagram every day “just to chat” (yes, you hear that right—every day) and Niall Horan has been busy answering fans questions on Spotify’s Twitter. Have we ever had this much online engagement with celebrities? Clearly, a movement has begun, and we are here for it. Keep the concerts coming, please. After all, most of us probably finished binge-watching Love is Blind and all of The Office a few days into self-isolation.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Niall Horan says fame can feel like 'a deer in the headlights'.[/video_embed]
