What’s a sign of true friendship in the music world? How about when you drop not one, but two new tracks with one of your besties? Drake and DJ Khaled kicked off fans’ weekends on a high note Friday when they released two brand new collaborations, as only superstar musicians can. Or is that “popstar” musicians?“Popstar” and “Greece” dropped in the early hours of July 17, and the musicians both immediately started trending on Twitter. Of course, passionate fans had a heads up about a new collaboration between the duo given that Khaled has been teasing the heck out of it on social media. (Because what else would
those owls have been other than a nod to Drake’s OVO?). The pair have also collaborated many times in the past for tracks like “I’m on One” and “For Free.”
Naturally, Khaled’s social media posts on July 16 also added to the overall excitement as he started the countdown until the new track releases. “TEAM WORK MAKE A DREM WORK !,”
he wrote in one of several posts. “WE WORK AMAZING TOGTHER DRAKE LUV FOREVER !”Technically the new tracks are Khaled creations that feature Drizzy, but that’s just mere details to fans. On “
Popstar” the Champagne Papi is all about rapping up his place as the “popstar” of a generation , while in “
Greece” he sings about that international lifestyle. Which recently,
included Barbados.
Khaled Khaled, the album where the tracks will live when it is released later this year, is the 12
th album for the Miami emcee. His previous album,
Father of Asahd, dropped in 2019.[video_embed id='1996875']RELATED: Drake isn't shy about showing off his ink [/video_embed]On the surface, at least, it seems like Drake has been living his best life in quarantine. In May, he released the mix tape
Dark Lane Demo Tapes, and he has also been hinting that his next album is close to being finished. Outside the studio, reports that Drake’s been
spotted hanging out near Rihanna’s childhood home in Barbados have fans more than a little curious as to the status of
that relationship. That isn’t the only (potential) personal development in Drizzy’s life lately though. In March, he also
shared photos of his son Adonis with the world for the first time.“I don’t want to feel like just because of a life choice I made to be a ‘celebrity’ that I got to make everybody live under this blanket… I just wanted to free myself of that,” the Champagne Papi
told Lil Wayne on Wayne’s radio show,
Young Money Radio in May. “I could just tell the way your kids would stare at you that the time and effort that you put in as a father. So, that was really inspiring for me just to know that I can still keep pushing forward as a musician and be there for my son.”[video_embed id='1978850']BEFORE YOU GO: Grammy award-winning Indigenous producer tells his story in new hip-hop album [/video_embed]
