The ongoing global pandemic isn’t stopping award shows, it’s simply changing them. The MTV EMAs were the latest show to continue celebrating the best in the arts amidst physical distancing protocols. On Sunday, November 8, MTV handed out their awards for the top artists of the year during the virtual ceremony and K-pop supergroup BTS led the charge with Lady Gaga close behind.English girl group Little Mix hosted the event, which was filmed in London and Budapest. Formed in 2011 on the British version of The X Factor, Little Mix, which is made up of members Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson, took the stage several times during Sunday’s event. Nelson unfortunately was absent due to illness. The group performed their new single “Sweet Melody” and took home the award for Best Pop. Little Mix’s win was BTS’ only loss of the night, with the seven-piece winning four of the five categories they were nominated in.BTS and members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook appeared virtually to accept their four awards, including Biggest Fans, Best Virtual Live for Bang Bang Con and Best Song for “Dynamite.” BTS’ win for Best Group marked the third year in a row that the supergroup claimed victory in the major category. "We'll keep working hard to be a group that can touch the hearts of people and give them hope through music,” said RM during the group’s acceptance speech. Following their Best Song win, the group announced that they were dedicating the award to their fan army, adding that they were happy to release a positive song during such a difficult time for so many.
