There are only a few days left in August but BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez made their shot at the buzzer with “Ice Cream” and scored what will undoubtedly be one of the biggest songs of the summer. The high energy bop arrived early Friday morning and delivers several scoops of pop flavour, with a little something for everyone. Who can say no to “Ice Cream?”The sped-up metronome backbeat provides an exciting opening that hypes up the track early on. The song then moves into a sexy and groove-filled base for Gomez and the four members of the massively popular K-Pop band to deliver their verses. The women sing, rap and make all the ice cream-related sexual innuendos that can fit into a three-minute single. Delivering the flirty earworm's chorus, the women sing “Look so good, yeah, look so sweet / Lookin' good, enough to eat / Coldest with the kiss, so he call me ice cream / Catch me in the fridge, right where the ice be.”Directed by Seo Hyun Seung, the music video is a colourful explosion that is fitting for the song's sweet-tooth title. Though BLACKPINK and Gomez filmed their sections separately in South Korea and Los Angeles, the scenes go together like hot weather and cool treats. Gomez arrives in the video in her own ice cream truck wearing a sailor-inspired outfit. She later hangs out in the driver’s seat of a vintage car and spends much of the video switching between a '50s pinup style and wearing pieces from her collaboration with Puma. As for BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Jisoo, Rosé and Jennie, the four women make a more current fashion statement with coordinating tennis outfits, chunky Dior jewelry, and a pastel color palette for a pajama scene.
The stylish video delivers a Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory meets
Vogue aesthetic that fans are loving. The video is breaking YouTube viewing records and is currently charting at number one in more than 40 countries. The heavily-teased collaboration was co-written by Gomez, TEDDY, Victoria Monét and Ariana Grande and includes some notes and phrasing similar to Grande’s massive hit “Seven Rings.”To celebrate the release of the new single, Gomez teamed up with New York restaurant Serendipity to release the special edition Cookies and Cream Remix ice cream flavour, which is made with pink vanilla ice cream, thick fudge swirl and cream-filled cookie pieces. The ice cream can be ordered online, so you’ll definitely be catching us in the fridge where the ice (cream) be.
The limited-edition ice cream is Gomez’s latest foray into the food world. The actor, musician and producer recently
hosted her own cooking show
Selena + Chef (
streaming now on Crave), which has already been renewed for a second season by HBO Max. In January, Gomez released her third album
Rare and is debuting her new
Rare Beauty line next week. On August 28, Gomez will team up with her
Wizards of Waverly Place co-star David Henrie to host a virtual premiere of the romantic comedy
This Is The Year, which Gomez produced.“Ice Cream” is the cherry on top of the massive 2020 BLACKPINK has been enjoying. The group were one of only three features on Lady Gaga’s
Chromatica and partnered with Mother Monster on the song “Sour Candy,” which debuted in the top 40 of Billboard’s Hot 100 (Elton John and “Ice Cream” writer Grande are the other two artists who appeared on Gaga’s sixth album). The group also jumped on a remix of Dua Lipa’s “Kiss And Make Up” and released the single “How You Like That” in June, which acts as the first single from their highly anticipated debut
The Album in October. BLACKPINK will make their debut on the MTV VMA stage on Sunday, where they are nominated for Best Group and Song of the Summer for “How You Like That.”
The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV2, MUCH, MTV and streaming platforms[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: An incredible ATM that dispenses pizza instead of cash[/video_embed]
