The Grammys have come and gone but we still have Canadian musical talent lighting it up right here at home. That's right, it's JUNO Awards time and this year is looking better than ever (don't we say that every year?). The 49th annual awards will be hosted by Alessia Cara at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Sunday, March 15th and she already has plenty to celebrate. The Brampton native scored six nominations herself and will go head-to-head with touring buddy Shawn Mendes in the Artist of the Year, Single of the Year and Fan Choice  categories. Also up for Fan Choice are Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd and more Canadian faves. International artists Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, Khalid and Post Malone got shout-outs in the corresponding category. Pop Album of the Year continues to be a stacked category with another Alessia nom as well as ones for Avril, bülow, Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine and Walk Off the Earth. Alessia also scored a mention for overall Album of the Year along with Michael Bublé and Bryan Adams.[video_embed id='-1']Our first-ever interview with Alessia Cara proves she’s always been a star[/video_embed]The nomination announcements were made January 28 and additionally revealed the first slate of performers who will take the stage during the three-hour show including Jann Arden (who is being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame this year), Lennon Stella, Daniel Caesar, The Glorious Sons and Tory Lanez. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced Jann's honour earlier in January which will happen during the ceremony as well. The Canadian icon has been nominated for 26 JUNOs in her career, taken home eight and even hosted the awards herself in 1997 and 2016 (when she co-hosted with Canadian Olympic skier Jon Montgomery). It's pretty fitting that she's finally getting her own spot in the Music Hall of Fame. The Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award will go to long-time Rush producer Pegi Cecconi.[video_embed id='1869637']RELATED: Jann Arden won her first JUNO while sitting in front of Céline Dion[/video_embed]
