Just a week after Adele released her first single in six years, “Easy On Me,” from her upcoming album 30, and we all lost our collective minds over it, the British songstress has announced more content to whet our appetite. The 33-year-old Vogue cover star took to Instagram to announce that, on Sunday November 14th at 8:30PM EST, she will hit the airwaves for an “Adele One Night Only” special.
The special will include performances of her new songs off of 30, as well as a sit-down interview with none other than Oprah Winfrey from her rose garden.
Variety is reporting their chat will include conversations, “about her new album, the stories behind the songs, life after divorce, weight loss and raising her son.” If this rose garden chat is anything like the chat Oprah had with Harry and Meghan, we think we can expect a lot of “whaaaaaaaaaaaat?”
Naturally, fans that still aren’t over the emotional grenade that is “Easy On Me,” are going a bit bonkers over the news.
Even CBS, the American broadcaster for the special, literally cannot even.
As if one big announement wasn't enough for the day, Adele also made the revelation of a lifetime when she announced that she's firmly Team Heinz in the Heinz v. Hunt's debate. It was only one of the absoltutely adorable moments in her recent British Vogue video where she tried to guess famous British food items while blindfolded.
As the cover star for both British and American Vogues this month, Adele already addressed some of the topics said to be covered in the upcoming special. She said about her weight loss: “People are shocked because I didn’t share my ‘journey’. They’re used to people documenting everything on Instagram. I did it for myself and not anyone else. So why would I ever share it? I don’t find it fascinating. It’s my body.”
She also told the fashion magazine about her choice to divorce ex-husband Simon Konecki, and then explaining that to their 9-year-old son Angelo.
“I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this [upcoming] record, when he’s in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness,” she said.
“It made him really unhappy sometimes,” she continued. “And that’s a real wound for me that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to heal.”
“If I can reach the reason why I left… if I can find that happiness and he sees me in that happiness, then maybe I’ll be able to forgive myself for it,” she added. “I want my son to see me really love, and be loved. It’s really important to me… I’ve been on my journey to find my true happiness ever since.”
Addressing certain songs on the album that she says are about the dissolution of her marriage, the Grammy and Oscar winner later told the outlet, “I feel like this album is self-destruction… then self-reflection and then sort of self-redemption. But I feel ready. I really want people to hear my side of the story this time.”
So far, we have no word on how Canadians will be able to tune into the broadcast; the special will air on CBS in the States and be available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.
