Katy Perry is getting into the holiday spirit with her latest music video for “Cozy Little Christmas.” The popstar dropped the new video on Monday and shows what life would be like for Santa and Mrs. Claus if the North Pole was in Palm Springs. Fewer cookies by the fireplace, more shots of eggnog by the pool. This is not your mother’s Peanuts Christmas album.Perry is giving the holidays a makeover with the popstar portraying a much younger, much fitter Mrs. Claus than holiday lovers are used to seeing. Maybe this is the Claus’ second marriage? The singer provides a relaxing vacation for her overworked hubby, with the pair lounging poolside and even receiving a couples massage care of the reindeer, with Perry giving viewers a sneak peek at all her trimmings. Sporting a black wig and taking a soak in a giant candy cane martini, Perry looks like she stepped out of a time machine from her 2010 California Gurls video.“Cozy Little Christmas” features a few nods to holiday nostalgia, with stop-motion Rudolph, Frosty and the Abominable Snow Monster looking like they were plucked from the classic 1964 TV film Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The '50s housewife aesthetic that Perry loves to play with is also on full display, with the singer donning a series of hairstyles including tight curls and a beehive while also wearing a full ball gown for a quick dance around the living room with Kris Kringle. It’s all completely over the top and completely Katy Perry.
Perry worked with director WATTS on the video for “Cozy Little Christmas,” which she wrote with Greg Wells and Ferras Alqaisi and released last year as an Amazon Prime exclusive during the holiday season. Now the song is receiving its wide release just in time for holiday music to go into full effect on radio and department stores, which considering your tolerance for the wintery tunes makes this the best time of year or the worst.“Cozy Little Christmas” wraps up a year of Perry releasing one-off singles without an album in sight. The Grammy-nominee has spent 2019 teasing a possible follow up to 2017’s Witness, releasing big budget music videos for her singles “Never Really Over,” “Small Talk” and “Harleys In Hawaii.” The singer did make music history by appearing in Taylor Swift’s “You Need To Calm Down” music video, with the pair publicly making amends after years of feuding.Perry has also been busy planning her wedding to fiancé Orlando Bloom this year after Bloom proposed on Valentine’s Day. The couple are reportedly planning on getting married by the end of the year, so it’s possible they could be having a Christmas-themed event. If “Cozy Little Christmas” is any indication, it would be a really fun wedding. [video_embed id='1710274']Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have finally ended their feud[/video_embed]
