5 Seconds Of Summer has finally dropped their latest album, and it couldn’t have come a moment too soon. Forget that March has been the longest decade in history and we’re all jonesing for summer, but considering the global climate right now, and with anxieties at an all-time high, we could use an album called ‘Calm,’ don’t you think?Turns out, that album title is a tip of the hat to their fans. “The album title came from the first letters of all of our names,” bandleader Luke Hemmings told the New York Post. “And it’s also a nod to our fans that coined us that name in our early days. They’ve been using that acronym for a long time.” The 5SOS gang includes Hemmings on vocals, Calum Hood on bass, Ashton Irwin on percussion, and Michael Clifford on guitar. *does the math* Yup that spells, ‘Calm’ all right! The Australian pop-rock quartet have certainly made an impact with their message of calm, because even though the album only dropped today, it is already blowing up the Billboard charts. The lead single ‘Easier’ has peaked at No.12 on Billboard’s Pop songs chart and the album debuted at No.1 on the Albums chart. The album also contains previously released songs ‘Wildflower,’ 'Teeth,’ and  ‘No Shame.’Of course the album was named and scheduled for release before the outbreak of the COVID-19 global pandemic, but oddly enough, Luke has noticed that the outbreak is bringing out the best in people, and everyone seems to have a ‘calm’ disposition to them. He told the New York Post that during his outdoor excursions, he and his girlfriend Sierra Deaton have noticed, “People have more time to say hi or give a smile. In such an unrelaxed, uncertain time . . . everyone seems a bit kinder.”To drive this point home, 5 Seconds of Summer has teamed up with the Calm app to offer to 5SOS fans unique, chill remixes of ‘Easier,’ ‘Old Me,’ ‘Red Desert’ and ‘Best Years’ (all of which are tracks on the new album). Having already used the app, Luke admitted that it has helped with own mental health. “The Matthew McConaughey bedtime stories are pretty awesome,” he says.Okay, we’re gonna need a 5SOS/Matthew McConaughey collab pretty soon now. That sounds pretty alright alright alright. You can stream the entire ‘Calm’ album on Spotify right now.
