At 21, Grammy-winning singer Billie Eilish is finally feeling comfortable expressing herself through fashion in a way she hasn’t been known to in previous years. Once the spokesperson for baggy clothes, now we have seen a renaissance, with the “Bad Guy” singer rocking clothes deemed more traditionally feminine, flattering, and form-fitting. Remember her 2021 Vogue cover in lingerie?
Now the “My Future” singer is clapping back at “bozo’s and “idiots” who are trying to give her grief for her evolving style.
According to screencaps of her Saturday Instagram Stories obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the “Happier Than Ever” singer posted a series of selfies to her Stories with text overlay that read, “I spent the first 5 years of my career getting absolutely OBLITERATED by you fools for being boy ish and dressing how I did & constantly being told I’d be hotter if I acted like a woman.”
She continued, “and now when I feel comfortable enough to wear anything remotely feminine or flirting, I CHANGED and am a sellout.. and ‘what happened to her’ oMg iT’s nOt thE sAmE biLlie she’s just like the rest bla blah, you guys are true idiots. LOL I can be BOTH you f***ing bozos. LET WOMEN EXIST! :))))"
“FUN FACT! Did you know that women are multifaceted!!!!!??? Shocking right?? Believe it or not women can be interested in multiple things,” she continued in her Stories.
She added, “Also that femininity does not equal weakness??!!!! Omg?! Insane right? Who knew?? And also totally unheard of and insane to want to express yourself differently at different times."
Her final selfie was the ultimate middle finger to the trolls of the world: "Suck my absolute c**k and balls you women hating a**weirdos."
DEUCES!
Billie’s personal style and red carpet fashion have previously drawn a lot of attention with the pop star's signature baggy clothing, which intentionally hid her shape. From oversized tracksuits to smock-like shirts that swallow her body, she seemed during her teen years to use fashion to convey that the less her body was seen, the better.
In Calvin Klein's 2019 "I Speak My Truth In #MyCalvins" campaign, Billie elaborated on why she wears baggy clothing, stating, "Nobody can have an opinion because they haven't seen what's underneath, you know?"
She continued, "Nobody can be like, 'she's slim-thick,' 'she's not slim-thick,' 'she's got a flat ass,' 'she's got a fat ass.' No one can say any of that because they don't know."
Later, she expounded on those feelings during an interview with British GQ , saying, "I get to see it and get to show it when I want to."
NME noted at the time that her statement ignited a bit of a debate, with some "fans supporting Eilish's reasons behind her fashion decisions" while others were "pointing out that people shouldn't be made to feel they have to hide their bodies in order to not be harassed or called names."
But then in 2020, Billie revealed that, like most women constantly in the spotlight and being compared to others, she was profoundly self-conscious of her body. In an interview with Dazed, the “Ocean Eyes” singer opened up about why she first hid her figure explaining, "The only reason I did it was 'cos I hated my body."
However, she also has been open about her wish to constantly evolve her style. She told Elle in 2019 that after she turns 18, "I'm gonna be a woman. I wanna show my body."
Now she’s 21, and she’s loving the switch from baggy to glam. At the 2022 Oscars, where she won the coveted trophy for her song “No Time To Die” off the James Bond soundtrack, she wore a custom black ruffled Gucci gown, and of course paired it with sneakers.
Some people on TikTok labeled her one of the “worst dressed” of the night, and Billie being Billie, she clapped back in epic fashion.
When one TikTok user said they had had “enough of her s**t” when it came to fashion, Billie responded with her own TikTok on the toilet, captioning it, "i HAVENT had enough of my s***,.I am s******g right now."
