“GUESS WHO’S HOPPIN ON ‘RUMORS’ W/ ME?!?” wrote Lizzo in an Instagram post announcing the collab we’ve all been dying for. The answer (as can be seen in the video clip where Lizzo apparently wakes her sleepy colleague up at nine in the morning) is Cardi B. Sorry, Harry Styles, apparently, you're going to have to wait.

The clip plays out a little like a prank call, with Lizzo FaceTiming Cardi whose name is saved in her phone as “‘Rumors’ Feat….” Lizzo greets Cardi with an enthusiastic, "Good morning mother f—er!" before teasing fans that her new collaborator is actually Harry Styles.

"Wait what the f--k?” says Cardi. “What's going on? Why you call me so early? It's nine o'clock in the morning!" We get it Cardi, none of us are at the top of our games pre-coffee.

Have we been waiting our whole lives (yes, our whole lives) for a Lizzo/Cardi collab? Yes. Do we also need Lizzo to stop joking about a Harry Styles collab and just DO one already?? Also yes. The comments were a pretty even split of "WE ARE READY! GIVE IT TO ME!" and "IF NOT NOW, WHEN IS THE HARRY COLLAB COMING?" We personally reside firmly in both camps.

Lizzo has been dropping hints and teasers for a few weeks now to hype the release of a new album. The first single drops this Friday, August 13. Cardi herself shared the news, too, writing “All the rumors are truuuuue — me n my sis @lizzobeeating dropping this friday get ready” paired with a post that featured a close-up of the two stars’ mouths and some seriously dangerous gold manicures.

Meanwhile, Lizzo continued to troll her social media followers by returning to Twitter after a year-long break to fake-ponder why she could possibly be trending. Hmm...

Late last month, Lizzo teased her fans by sharing a TikTok of her in a recording studio where she joked, “A album? Absolutely not, I’m not making no f--kin’ album! I’m not in a studio. This isn’t Mark Ronson. This isn’t a whole board. I’m not hanging out with songwriters like Phil [Lawrence]. I’m not making a f--kin’ album!”

Over the weekend, however, Lizzo gave us a tiny taste of what ‘Rumors’ is going to be all about. The singer, who says the album marks a “new era” for her, shared a video in which she sings a sample from one of the new tracks. Famous fans from Snoop Dogg to Jonathan Van Ness weighed in in the comments section… mostly with fire emojis, which, to be honest, are the only mode of expression you’ll be left with after watching the clip which is the definition of FIRE.

Naturally, Lizzo kept things interesting by posting a similar singing sample to TikTok… going all operatic on her forthcoming track. Let the countdown to Friday begin.
