On May 23, it will finally be official: Pink will achieve icon status at the Billboard Music Awards (watch Sunday, May 23 at 8pET on CTV) when the pop star with a two-decades-long career is awarded the organization’s prestigious Icon honour.

Pink will join other BBMA Icons like Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Cher, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Garth Brooks, Neil Diamond, and the one and only Canadian on the list, Céline Dion.

The award presentation, designed to recognize “outstanding artists who have achieved excellence on the Billboard charts and have made an indelible mark on music itself” will also feature a performance by the singer, known for her epic on-stage act.

“I feel so humbled to be receiving the ICON Award at the @BBMAs and can’t wait to perform,” Pink wrote in a post accompanying the announcement on Instagram.

“As a little girl, I always dreamed about being a singer and sharing my love of music with the world. Years later, to receive the Billboard Music Awards Icon Award is hard to fathom,” she said in her official statement (via Variety).

“I feel so honored to join the ranks of music idols like Cher, Garth Brooks, Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder. It’s a true ‘pinch me’ moment and I feel humbled and blessed.”

Pink is the tenth artist to become a Billboard Icon since the award started in 2011. Four of her songs have gone all the way to number one on the Billboard charts: 2001’s iconic "Lady Marmalade" a collaboration that also featured Christina Aguilera, L’il Kim, and Mya, "So What" (2008), "Raise Your Glass" (2010) and "Just Give Me a Reason" in 2013.

Pink’s most recent music release was the 2019 album "Hurts 2B Human" but late last week, the pop star announced a new project: she’s teamed with filmmaker Michael Gracey (the director behind The Greatest Showman and one of the producers of Elton John biopic, Rocketman) for a documentary about her 2019 Beautiful Trauma tour which saw Pink perform for the first time at London’s 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium.

The project, titled Pink: All I Know So Far, will premiere on Amazon Prime and be accompanied by a live album, a special setlist in ‘zine format with photographs from the tour, and a new song.

Pink: All I Know So Far will debut on May 21, two days before The Billboard Music Awards air live from LA on May 23.

Other big name nominees fans might get a glimpse of that night include Drake, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, and Pop Smoke.

Watch the Billboard Music Awards Sunday, May 23 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.
