It’s officially awards season, and votes are in… well, not actually, but soon they will be. For now, we’ll just have to settle for the 92nd Academy Awards' nominees shortlist. On Monday, the Academy
announced the shortlist for nine major categories: Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Original Song, Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Visual Effects. While countless categories may offer dedicated fans a delicious cocktail of surprise, excitement, and maybe even disappointment… we’re especially interested in the 'Best Original Song' category. Why? Because, although it might not quite be equivalent to the infamous Kanye interruption at the VMAs in 2009, we can’t help but notice T-Swift was snubbed from the list, despite her recent work in
Cats.Instead, the potential nominees include Beyoncé’s
Spirit from
The Lion King,
Into The Unknown from
Frozen II, Chrissy Metz's
I’m Standing With You from
Breakthrough, Randy Newman’s
I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away from
Toy Story 4, and more. In fact,
The Lion King made the list twice, with the Disney blockbuster seemingly leading the charge as a serious Oscar contender against the likes of fan-favourite,
Frozen II.Two for you Glen CoCo (a.k.a.
The Lion’s King) and none for Gretchen Wieners (a.k.a. Taylor Swift), in this scenario. For the record, Swift fans (better known as 'Swifties') might be surprised to see that the Academy didn’t opt to include Swift’s rendition of
Beautiful Ghosts from the current movie-musical version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s
Cats. Taylor Swift stars as Bombalurina in the film and, despite the Oscar snub, the song was recognized for the 'Best Original Song' category at the Golden Globes, which will air January 5th on CTV.Last year, the Oscar in this category went to Lady Gaga for her
A Star Is Born ballad
Shallow. Of course, this provided us with the on-stage performance of a lifetime, which forced us all to question whether or not we will ever experience love like what Bradley and Gaga (appear) to share. Can you really fake that kind of chemistry? It’s been a year and we’re still hung up on it, TBH.Here are the songs on the shortlist:

The King, John Williams for
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, Randy Newman for his work on
Marriage Story, Michael Abels for
Us, Hildur Guðnadóttir for
Joker, and more.Academy voters will submit their picks for nominations during the first week of January and the final list of nominees will be officially announced on January 13th. For eager viewers, don’t worry… you won’t have to wait (too) much longer. The Oscars — better known as the most glamorous night of the year — will air on Sunday, Feb. 9th on CTV.
