If you’ve been counting the days since Quentin Tarantino revealed that Kill Bill: Vol. 3 might actually happen, you’re definitely not alone. Fans of the 2003 movie (and its 2004 sequel) have been waiting for the director to officially confirm the movie for more than 15 years now, but all they’ve ever gotten are hints. As it turns out, one of the original film’s actors is just as ready to push the project forward as you are.Vivica A. Fox, who played assassin Vernita Green, reveals that she hopes a third Kill Bill comes sooner rather than later, and she knows exactly who should be cast in the leading role: Zendaya. As fans will recall, The Bride (Uma Thurman) took out Vernita in a brutal scene during the first film, killing her in front of her young daughter Nikki (Ambrosia Kelley). “It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that I’m sorry,” The Bride says to Nikki in the movie. “But you can take my word for it, your mother had it coming. When you grow up, if you still feel raw about it, I’ll be waiting.”
Well now Nikki should be all grown up, and Fox believes that Zendaya would be the perfect choice to play the character, only if the original actress wasn't available, pointing out that a household name could help get part three made.“So I went, Zendaya! How hot would that be? And that would probably green light this project,” Fox told NME. “Her and Uma are both very tall, and it would just be kick-butt, and I love her. Hopefully now we can put that out, like ‘Tarantino, cast Zendaya!’ And spark his interest to put it on the fast track.” Back in 2004, Tarantino confirmed that if a third installment were to move ahead, it would absolutely revolve around Nikki’s quest to avenge her mother’s death—the scene was set up for that exact reason. “The star will be Vernita Green’s daughter, Nikki,” Tarantino told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “I’ve already got the whole mythology: Sofie Fatale (Julie Dreyfus) will get all of Bill’s money. She’ll raise Nikki, who’ll take on the Bride. Nikki deserves her revenge every bit as much as the Bride deserved hers.”Last summer, Tarantino opened up about the potential movie again, revealing on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had dinner with Thurman and they discussed the potential project. “Me and Uma have talked about it recently, frankly, to tell you the truth,” Tarantino said in July 2019, as per Indiewire. “I have thought about it a little further. We were talking about it literally last week. If any of my movies were going to spring from my other movies, it would be a third Kill Bill.”There’s just one tiny little issue with that. Were Tarantino to move ahead with a third Kill Bill, that would bring him to his 10-film quota. The director has long said that he will retire after making 10 original movies, and Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood, marked his ninth big screen feature. There’s a loophole though: as Vanity Fair points out, the director has said that he considers the first two Kill Bill films to be one long feature, so perhaps a third instalment could also be rolled in. That would leave the door open for one other movie—a film that will not be the previously planned Star Trek, by the way, since Tarantino walked away from directing that one back in December.Meanwhile, there’s no word on whether Zendaya, who has amassed even more fans recently through her work on HBO’s Euphoria, would even be interested in the role. Should she be offered it and pass though, one actor who would definitely be up for the gig is The Hate U Give star Amandla Stenberg. “The ultimate character I’d love to play is Vivica A. Fox’s daughter in Kill Bill,” the actress revealed back in 2018. “There have been rumors about a potential Kill Bill Vol. 3 and that would just be amazing. It’s my favourite movie. It would be so cool.”[video_embed id='1992184']RELATED: Zendaya shot a movie in secret during the pandemic[/video_embed]
