What we love most about actress and director Olivia Wilde, apart from her incredible talent, is that she has a self-described “strict no-asshole policy” on her film sets. That policy may have been invoked this fall with her latest directorial project Don’t Worry Darling, which was originally supposed to star Shia LaBeouf. It would appear that earlier reports of him leaving the project due to “scheduling conflicts” weren’t entirely accurate. To be blunt, Olivia reportedly fired Shia.

Originally, all we knew back in September was that Shia dropped out of the project and was recast with pop superstar and actor Harry Styles. But news just coming down the wire now reveals that, on top of creative differences with Shia, Olivia found that, even before filming started, he “displayed poor behaviour and his style clashed with the cast and crew.”

Variety spoke to a source close to the set, who stated, “He is not an easy guy to work with.” They added that his behaviour and demeanour was “off-putting” to those working on and associated with Don’t Worry Darling, particularly Olivia, who prefers to collaborate with cast and crew collectively on top of the afformentioned policy.

Shia has been infamous in Hollywood for the better part of the last decade for bizarre and eyebrow-raising behaviour, but recently that behaviour has landed him in legal and possibly criminal hot water. Earlier this month, his ex-girlfriend, musician FKA Twigs, filed a lawsuit against the Transformers star, alleging “relentless abuse,” assault, sexual battery and emotional distress. “What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life,” FKA twigs said in an interview with The New York Times. “I don’t think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that’s the thing. It can happen to anybody.”

Former collaborator Sia, who cast Shia in her infamous “Elastic Heart” music video opposite dancer Maddie Ziegler, backed up FKA Twigs, adding that he once “conned” her into an affair.

Shortly after FKA Twigs told her story, Shia publicly admitted to a history of chronic abusive behaviour, and for the most part, did not dispute her allegations. In an email to The New York Times, he wrote, “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behaviour made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”

This acrimonious dismissal from Don’t Worry Darling and the recent lawsuit come after years of strange and peculiar behaviour on his part. In 2014, he was embroiled in a plagiarism scandal when fans noticed his directorial short film HowardCantour.com was seemingly lifted from a graphic novel by Daniel Clowes without attribution. That same year, he wore a paper bag on his head to a Hollywood film premiere, with the words “I Am Not Famous Anymore” emblazoned on the front in black sharpie. In 2015, he livestreamed himself sitting through back-to-back presentation of all of his films because... reasons. And in 2016, he began a hitchhiking  journey across the United States, asking fans to come pick him up.

His casting in Don’t Worry Darling might have been a career comeback for the actor, who many were suggesting was a changed man. However, it seems that won't be the case.
