Drive-in theatres are making a serious comeback and you don’t have to take our word for it. Just check out the latest drive-in to pop up in the UK — at one of Queen Elizabeth’s vacation homes, no less. It appears that Her Royal Highness has given the greenlight for an open-air theatre to be set up at Sandringham, her country estate in Norfolk. The property is the location where the monarch and her family typically pass their Christmas vacations but this fall it will become a haven for film fans (with a set of wheels and a driver’s licence) in and around London.Late in the month of September, Sandringham will host social distance-compliant movie nights, screening recent blockbusters, feel-good classics, and award-winners like Grease, A Star Is Born, Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody (insert “queen” pun here), and Sam Mendes’ patriotic epic, 1917. There will also be matinee programming for the kids including Moana and Toy Story.[video_embed id='2022354']RELATED: Bombshell book exposes why Harry and Meghan left the royal family[/video_embed]Naturally, the pop-up drive-in will also feature a snack bar serving popcorn and drinks as well as a rotating roster of food vendors (movie-watching is hungry work). However, this is the only drive-in on the planet that will allow moviegoers an up-close peek at how and where the royal family spends its December downtime. And all for the bargain price of $56 CAD (which, if you can get five people in your car, is cheaper than your standard night out at the cinema). Upgrades are available for those who want to take in the show under the stars — the property will provide deckchairs for an extra few dollars. Fanatical monarchists can really make a day of it by going apple picking in HRH’s royal orchards (also located at Sandringham). Start practising your curtsy now.Attendees, however, are unlikely to catch a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth herself. Following the recent wedding of her granddaughter Princess Beatrice, the Queen and her husband Prince Philip have been spending their time in Scotland at their summer home, Balmoral Castle, with their next planned stop being the London-adjacent Windsor Castle. Her in-town HQ, Buckingham Palace, remains empty of royals due to the pandemic.[video_embed id='-1']Before you go: Australian Shepherd makes epic jump into owner's arms[/video_embed]
