Produced and written by Jordan Peele with Win Rosenfeld, and based on the characters created by Clive Barker, the new Candyman is being touted as a ‘spiritual sequel’ to the 1992 film. The original follows graduate student Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) who, while researching urban legends, hears of a local story about the Candyman, who can be summoned by saying his name five times while facing a mirror. The catch? The Candyman is a dangerous, frightening figure who kills whoever summons him, with the hook he has in place of a right arm. Yeah, doesn’t exactly sound like a good choice for game night.
So far, Peele and DaCosta have been pretty tight-lipped about the plot of their upcoming movie, but on Tuesday, we finally got a sweet taste (get it?) of what's to come.[video_embed id='1901237']RELATED: Lucy Hale weighs in on a possible ‘Fantasy Island’ sequel[/video_embed]Peele took to Twitter to dare fans to say (or in this case, tweet) the Candyman's name five times in order to unlock a secret clip from the film. With a stacked cast including Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Watchmen), Colman Domingo (Lincoln, Selma), and Teyonah Parris (Dear White People, Chi-Raq), fans are also eager to know how the original Candyman actor Tony Todd will play into the new film. Todd is confirmed as a cast member, but his role remains a mystery. Will he reprise his role as the Candyman? It seems we'll have to wait to find out...Candyman hits theatres on June 12th.
