Blending humour, drama and romance, The Princess Bride starred Elwes as farmhand Westley, who was believed to have died while searching for his fortune at sea. Following his death, his true love Buttercup (Wright) agrees to be the princess bride to Prince Humperdinck, but she’s kidnapped before her wedding. After a series of misadventures, the pair are eventually reunited moments after Buttercup is forced to marry Humperdinck. Prepare to cry.The iconic film celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018 with a special screening at the New York Film Festival and reunited Wright, Elwes and Reiner along with actors Billy Crystal, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Carol Kane, and Wallace Shawn. During the Q&A for the event, fans learned that The Princess Bride author William Goldman had tried several times to write a sequel but had yet to find a fitting follow-up story (Goldman died only a few months after the screening at age 87).In September 2019, Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra suggested a possible remake of the film, saying “We have so many people coming to us saying, ‘We want to remake this show or that show.’ Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo The Princess Bride. Some people want to do animated versions of some of the sitcoms.” Elwes was quick to respond to the rumours of a remake, pointing out that remaking perfection has nowhere to go but all the way down to the Pit of Despair. As you wish, @Cary_Elwes & @RealRobinWright. #ThePrincessBride is streaming May 1 on #DisneyPlus. pic.twitter.com/MOSSVLip7k
