For those who are facing the ongoing quarantine with an abundance of free time, it may seem like the options of what to watch daily are running low. That’s inconceivable, but if you’re starting to find that your movie and TV queue is drying up, we have good news: Disney+ has just announced their latest big-name addition to their library of classic films, and are making The Princess Bride available in a few days. In 2020-time, that’s still about eight months away, but at least it’s something look forward to.Disney+ reunited the stars of the 1987 classic Rob Reiner film, scoring Buttercup (Robin Wright) and Westley (Cary Elwes) for the promo. Filmed in their homes, the sweet new video shows the longtime friends briefly discussing their time in quarantine, which has helped boost streaming rates for all services. “Are you bored yet?” Elwes asks Wright. “No!” she responds, “Are you?”Wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt for the occasion, Elwes responds “Not even, but if I was stuck in front of my TV, I could think of some real fun things to watch like that Princess Bride movie we made together.”Elwes goes on to announce that the beloved film will be debuting on Dinsey+ starting May 1, prompting Wright to ask, “Does that mean we’ll get to take a selfie with Mickey?” There’s really only one way for Westley to answer this. “They better say ‘As you wish’ to that or I want no part in it!” Oh, my Westley! Blending humour, drama and romance, The Princess Bride starred Elwes as farmhand Westley, who was believed to have died while searching for his fortune at sea. Following his death, his true love Buttercup (Wright) agrees to be the princess bride to Prince Humperdinck, but she’s kidnapped before her wedding. After a series of misadventures, the pair are eventually reunited moments after Buttercup is forced to marry Humperdinck. Prepare to cry.The iconic film celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018 with a special screening at the New York Film Festival and reunited Wright, Elwes and Reiner along with actors Billy Crystal, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Carol Kane, and Wallace Shawn. During the Q&A for the event, fans learned that The Princess Bride author William Goldman had tried several times to write a sequel but had yet to find a fitting follow-up story (Goldman died only a few months after the screening at age 87).In September 2019, Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra suggested a possible remake of the film, saying “We have so many people coming to us saying, ‘We want to remake this show or that show.’ Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo The Princess Bride. Some people want to do animated versions of some of the sitcoms.” Elwes was quick to respond to the rumours of a remake, pointing out that remaking perfection has nowhere to go but all the way down to the Pit of Despair.
