Rashida Jones and Bill Murray play quirky dad-daughter duo in Sofia Coppola's ‘On The Rocks’

Picture this: A dysfunctional (and ever so charming) dad-daughter pair make their way through every nook and cranny of New York City on a booze-soaked mission to determine whether or not the daughter’s husband is having an affair. Now, picture it with Rashida Jones and Bill Murray. Pretty perfect, right?Sofia Coppola, the famed Lost in Translation writer-director, seemingly knew exactly what she was doing when she cast the former film’s star, Murray, alongside Jones for her latest project: On The Rocks. The ‘dramedy’ follows a writer and mom of two, Laura, who begins to feel at odds with her life in Manhattan, especially as her husband seems to become increasingly busy and unavailable. The trailer shows Laura enlist the help of her playboy father, Felix, as the pair sets off to determine if her husband is having an affair — a revelation which would confirm her father’s suspicions. Coppola and Jones are long-time friends, as the two reportedly met while the director was workshopping the script for Lost in Translation. What begins as a (perhaps ill-fated) foyer into marital spying, soon turns into an endearing father and daughter screwball adventure that brings Jones and Murray’s characters closer together.Coppola also told EW, “I wanted to do something that was a little bit lighter and more playful with a lot of heart and sincerity. Felix is an old-world gentleman used to talking over martinis. The way he looks at women and relationships, he’s giving advice from his perspective, which is different from how Laura’s husband is, and she’s trying to see it from his view.”This isn’t the first time the three have worked together, as they previously joined forces for the Netflix holiday special A Very Murray Christmas, which co-starred Jones, in 2015.
