It’s actually happening! If you were a fan of the huge cult-classic 1986 film Labyrinth, then perk your pointed Goblin eyebrows up – not only is a sequel happening, it now has a director. Director Scott Derrickson, who is most known for his work in the Marvel universe (Doctor Strange, 2016), will sit in the director’s chair, following in the footsteps of Muppets creator Jim Henson who directed the musical fantasy 33 years ago.Confirming the news on Twitter, Derrickson simply said, “The latest” and retweeted an article covering the breaking news by Deadline Hollywood. The sci-fi fantasy film centred around the character Sarah, played by a young Jennifer Connelly, as she seeks to rescue her baby brother Toby from the Goblin King Jareth, played by the incomparable David Bowie.Even though David Bowie cannot reprise his iconic role (the ‘Starman’ passed away in 2016), his son, director Duncan Jones, also confirmed on Twitter that he will reprise his small blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role as a secondary goblin in the sequel! Some fans, however, are not feeling the sequel-idea. Many have taken to Twitter to express their outrage at trying to meddle with their childhoods and what they consider a perfect film. Although one user had the best plot idea: make Jennifer Connelly the new Goblin King. We could get on board with that! Maybe they should pass that idea on to scriptwriter Maggie Levin who will pen the sequel, according to Rolling Stone. The 1986 original film wasn’t the biggest hit at the box office at the time, but has since garnered a huge fanbase and is widely considered a cult classic nowadays. Jim Henson’s daughter Lisa will serve a producer and his son Brian will executive produce. Earlier in the year, Derrickson actually decided not to direct the sequel to Doctor Strange, but will continue as executive producer on the film.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Pup is just so confused by owner's mocking sounds [/video_embed]
