Just when you thought Zack Snyder fans couldn’t get any more excited for the director’s 2021 cut of Justice League, he goes and hires Jared Leto to reprise his Suicide Squad role as the Joker. Because after the year that has been 2020, who doesn’t need another grill-wearing, sparkle-donning iteration of the DC villain in their lives? The Hollywood Reporter confirmed this latest piece of casting news on October 21, reporting that Leto is joining the likes of Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher and Amber Heard for reshoots on the film, which is being financed by Warner Bros. for a release on HBO Max next year. For those who need a quick refresher, Zack Snyder’s Justice League came about after the director was taken off the 2017 film in order to deal with his daughter’s death. Joss Whedon replaced him in the mega superhero offering featuring Batman, Superman, and all the other men, but it was a big old flop. Cue the fans who wanted Snyder’s original vision, and a whole lot of money from Warner Bros. While scenes from the original film are still going to be used, Snyder is adding many more through his own artistic vision. The addition of the Joker is particularly notable because this marks the first time an actor will play the role in more than one film. It’s also important to note that Leto wasn’t in the original Justice League, and so this casting officially ties the worlds of Suicide Squad and Justice League together. (Although to be fair, there was that Easter egg in Batman v Superman, not to mention the fact that Affleck had a cameo in Suicide.)Fans immediately seemed torn over the news. While there was a large contingent who didn’t love Leto’s portrayal of the character the first time around, there are plenty of people out there who think he can redeem himself under Snyder’s thumb. Of course not everyone was ready to break out the welcome wagon for the character’s return. Others voiced concern that Leto’s casting would just be a distraction to the larger story they want to see unfold, and that this is just the latest bump in what is turning out to be quite an expensive reboot. (To put it in perspective, the movie was originally supposed to cost about $30 million to revamp with the original footage, but some experts are saying it’s now costing more than twice that.)Meanwhile, the rumours continue to float around about almost all the other logistics. Superman himself, Henry Cavill, has confirmed that he’s not filming anything new, while Aquaman, a.k.a. Jason Momoa, will only tell fans this is the cut they deserve. For a project this big, expensive, and anticipated, there are surprisingly few other details available."It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie," Snyder previously told The Hollywood Reporter, adding that he has never seen the version that was released in theatres. "You probably saw one-fourth of what I did."Here’s hoping for fans’ sakes everywhere that the other three-quarters are worth the wait.[video_embed id='2030335']BEFORE YOU GO: Cat attempts daily hilarious attack on mail carrier[/video_embed]
