If you're the type of person who's tired of all the sequels and reboots coming out of Hollywood, this news probably isn't going to sit well: the latest classic to get a possible do-over is Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. If given the green light, the 1989 Disney movie will be rebranded as Shrunk, and Josh Gad is in talks to take over the lead role from Rick Moranis. Gad already has a couple of Disney megahits under his belt (Frozen, Frozen II and Beauty and the Beast, as well as voice spots on Phineas and Ferb, Star Wars Rebels and Sofia the First), and the actor was reportedly the one who approached the studio with the story idea earlier this year. The project may not be a go just yet but Shrunk already has an eye on who they want to direct — and if they land him, it'll make this even more interesting. According to Variety, Joe Johnston, who directed the original Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, is in negotiations to go behind the camera for the reboot. Variety added that the studio met with other directors, but Johnston is a "perfect fit for all involved." The reboot would see Gad as the grown-up son of original protagonist Wayne Szalinski, played by Moranis. A scientist like his father, Gad's character would repeat history by accidentally shrinking his own children to the size of ants — exactly what happened to him, his sister, and their two next door neighbours in the original film. You'd think a guy would've learned his lesson by now.Honey, I Shrunk the Kids was Johnston's directorial debut. He also directed the original Jumanji, Captain America: The First Avenger and Jurassic Park III, and is set to take on the newest Narnia movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair.Aside from riding the wave that is Frozen II, Gad has another Disney flick, Artemis Fowl, to promote. It hits theatres in August.[video_embed id='1820862']How did Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad keep ‘Frozen 2’ spoilers a secret?[/video_embed]
