While the release of the new James Bond movie has (once again) been delayed, film fans will not have to suffer long without an action star to root for. Enter: Ryan Reynolds as, uh, ‘Blue Shirt Guy.’ And so what if his hero monicker leaves a little (a lot) to be desired? This is 2020 and for the love of all that is good, we just want to be entertained for an hour-and-a-half, okay? Reynolds, who’s headlining the upcoming action/comedy directed by Canadian filmmaker Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, The Internship), provided fans with a sneak peek of what was to come just yesterday, promising chaos, action, and a release date that could arrive before (or after) the next Olympic games. The full trailer dropped today, proving that a little dose of Reynolds can brighten even a pandemic-era Monday.Reynolds' co-star is Killing Eve actor Jodie Comer, who plays a gamer tasked with breaking some painful news to Reynolds' character: namely, that he’s merely a non-player character (NPC) in a video game. Like Pinocchio before him, Guy had thought of himself as a real boy. SAD! But as the only world he knows suddenly and brutally comes under threat, Guy steps up to prove that NPCs have feelings, too. Even if they’re just a bunch of ones and zeroes (to some people).[video_embed id='2040098']RELATED: Jann Arden invites Ryan Reynolds to play her boyfriend on her hit show 'Jann'[/video_embed]Reynolds and Comer are joined by castmates Taika Watiti (the New Zealand actor/writer/director who won an Oscar for last year’s Jo Jo Rabbit), Stranger Things star Joe Keery, and Get Out’s Lil Rel Howery. The film is scheduled to be released for December 11 — maybe in theatres, maybe on your laptop, maybe on another day entirely. Either way, we’re looking forward to Reynolds bringing the laughs at some point in the future. Check out the trailer below.
