If the best sports movie of all time doesn’t deserve a sequel, what movie does?
A League of Their Own star Geena Davis seems to agree, recently revealing that she has had designs on revisiting Rockford for some time. The memorable and highly quotable 1992 film from director Penny Marshall featured Davis alongside Madonna, Lori Petty, and Rosie O’Donnell going to bat as the Peaches with Tom Hanks as their irritable coach. Davis’ idea for a new film, however, would see the baseball tradition being passed down to a new generation.“I have an idea for a sequel,” the actor told
Us Weekly. “I’m trying to see if it can happen before I’m too old. It would be called
Little League of Their Own. The woman that my character is based on in that movie, her son grew up to be a major-league ballplayer. I’m sure it was her that taught him how to play.”

The beloved story is already being adopted as a TV series on Amazon penned by
Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and
Mozart in the Jungle’s Will Graham — evidence of how popular it remains among viewers. “I loved it,” says Davis, “and I hoped people would like it.” However, she admits, she “didn’t realize what a nerve it would strike and that it would last this long.”"At that time, people didn’t really think about videos or DVDs or whatever, you know, movies came and went,” she explained. “But they live forever now, so it’s a whole different experience.”While it’s true that that the major-league sequel Davis has planned would focus on a team other than the war-era Peaches, fans will more than likely keep their fingers crossed for a reappearance of (at the very least) America’s Dad, Tom Hanks. Davis’ evident love and admiration for the actor bodes well: “My first impression of Tom was that he’s funny as hell, up for anything and ready to go, at all times,” she told
Us. “Tom’s talent is unlimited and truly breathtaking when you look at the great variety of characters he’s played throughout his career… No level of fame could impact his innate warmth and generosity. He’s just that guy.”[video_embed id='2058745']Before you go: Bruce Willis is back as John McClane for hilarious ad[/video_embed]
