When it comes to Hollywood reboots and remakes, where there’s a will, there’s a way — no matter how impossible it may seem. That’s the case with the latest news of a Face/Off reboot in the works at Paramount, reviving the 1997 action hit for a new audience. For those unacquainted with the original action flick directed by John Woo, it's a tale as old as time... lol jk. FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta) is on a mission to bring terrorist Castor Troy (Nicholas Cage) to justice, after Archer's son is killed by Troy in an assassination attempt on Archer himself. In a wild turn of events, Archer gets a team of plastic surgeons to give him Troy’s face (casual, very casual) for an undercover sting — only to have Troy return the favour by undergoing plastic surgery to get Archer’s face. It’s a wild, improbable, totally bananas plot — but it worked back in 1997, grossing over $245 million at the box office and gaining a 92% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So what do we know about the plans for the new Face/Off? Deadline reports the reboot will be written by Oren Uziel (of 22 Jump Street and 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog), with Fast & Furious franchise producer Neil Moritz signing on. Original Face/Off producer Dave Permut is set to executive produce. And what about John Travolta and Nicholas Cage? While some fans are hoping for Travolta and Cage to reprise their roles, Paramount has already promised a new cast for the flick. With no new names attached to star in the reboot yet, we can't help but dream up our fantasy cast in the meantime.Assuming the reboot brings us a modern version of Travolta and Cage's original characters, we could totally see Zac Efron as FBI agent Archer and Riverdale's Cole Sprouse as his nemesis. Or how about Chadwick Boseman as Archer, with Idris Elba taking on the villain role? He definitely proved he has the range to play the baddie in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. We'd also totally be in to mixing it up with Angelica Ross as agent Shawna Archer alongside Kerry Washington as Cassandra Troy. The possibilities are endless, and really — who wouldn’t want the opportunity to stretch themselves as an actor by playing two vastly different roles in one movie? As for the plot, we'll have to wait and see how this reboot plays out; we know Castor Troy dies at the end of the original (oops, spoiler), but when it comes to Hollywood blockbusters, death is something that can always be overcome.Hang on to your hats (and your faces) — we have a feeling this reboot will cut deep.
