'Ohana' means family, and family means no one get’s left behind. In this case, it means no beloved childhood story gets left behind, either. The irrefutable classic, Lilo & Stitch is receiving a live-action revival, courtesy of Disney and — hopefully — Jon M. Chu.
The details aren’t quite ironed out yet, but The Hollywood Reporter reports that Chu, known for his work on Crazy Rich Asians, is in talks to direct the project. Of course, this isn’t the first time the 2002 film has received a modern update. In 2003, the movie was made into a limited TV series which ran until 2006.Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirish are producing which, if you’re familiar with their work on the live-action remake of Aladdin, seems like a good sign. Ryan Halprin has signed on as executive producer, and the current version of the script was written by Mike Van Waes. The original film was written and directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders, the team known for their work on the widely celebrated film How to Train Your Dragon. Currently, it is unclear if the movie will receive a theatrical release, or will go straight to the Disney+ platform. For those of us who need a refresher, the original Lilo & Stitch brought viewers into the earnest world of Lilo, a precocious and lovable 6-year-old Hawaiian girl, her older sister Nani, and Stitch — an alien trying to pass as a dog who they adopt from a local shelter. According to THR, the Lilo & Stitch ohana have since become one of the most sought-after Disney personalities in terms of merchandising. In case it isn’t already obvious, 2020 is seemingly the year of the remake. Everything old is new again, with classic sitcoms and beloved films receiving a revival under the fresh lens of new creative teams and new talent. Fortunately for any of us who first fell in love with the dog-like-alien named Stitch back in 2002, Lilo & Stitch is no exception.[video_embed id='2058425']WATCH:Meet the new Tiger Lily[/video_embed]Fan response seems somewhat split on this one, however. While some viewers are thrilled to see a childhood favourite evolve into a live-action Disney Blockbuster, some seem to believe that Disney should leave well enough alone. This was always my favorite scene in the original LILO & STITCH, how'd they know it'd turn out to be so relevant https://t.co/Mr3DZ7MH9R pic.twitter.com/MbwDKSjD2Q

Despite the criticism, the one real question we have is: What will Stitch look like in live-action form? Not another Disney live action remake. Hey @Disney this is getting old.
