Channing Tatum is directing a road trip movie about man's best friend

We didn’t think Channing Tatum could ever land a role sexier than Magic Mike but as it turns out, he may have done just that. Everyone’s favourite Step Up dancer turned 21 Jump Street cop is set to make his directorial debut with the new road trip comedy Dog.As reported by Deadline, Dog will follow former Army Ranger Briggs and his trusty Belgian Malinois, Lulu (which happens to be the name of Tatum's real life pet who sadly passed away in 2018), as they embark on an extremely unorthodox road trip to attend Briggs' best friend's–and Lulu's former handler’s–funeral. Keeping close to his acting roots, along with directing the film Tatum will also star as Briggs.

Though it may sound sweet and innocent at first, don’t expect this to be your typical feel-good, man’s-best-friend type of movie. Co-written by Tatum, Reid Carolin, and Tatum’s longtime friend and collaborator Brett Rodriguez, Dog will in fact be an out-of-the-box comedy featuring shenanigans including but not limited to: breaking laws, pet psychics, and hostile cannabis farmers. However, it's not all fun and games for Dog. The plot will also touch on themes of grief, redemption, and PTSD, as viewers follow the pair on this journey of love, self-discovery and growth.In an interesting real-life turn, Tatum will co-direct Dog with Carolin, while Gregory Jacob has signed on to the project as a producer. Together, the trio produced the original Magic Mike, which leads us to wonder – will there be shirtless dancing in this movie too? Talk about conflicting emotions.We’re not sure what watching this film will do to us, so we’re going to recommend that everyone comes to the theatre prepared with a good ‘ol tissue box.
