Channing Tatum, actor, children’s author, BMX rider, and holder of Zoë Kravitz’s hand can now add “dog bather” to his official list of accomplishments thanks to the new trailer for his upcoming film, simply titled Dog. Tatum, who stars in the film, also co-wrote and co-directed it alongside Magic Mike producer Reid Carolin. Which means the co-bathing scene, in which Channing shares a tub with a Lulu, an adorable Belgian Malanois, was at least half his own idea.

“If you would enjoy watching me get bit by a dog, this will be a very fulfilling and funny movie for you,” wrote the actor on Instagram in a post that featured the just-released clip. Baths AND biting? This movie truly has something for everyone.

Dog is a road trip buddy film with a twist: one of the buddies is a dog and that dog does not exactly want to be buddies with Tatum’s character, an Army Ranger by the name of Briggs. At least not at first. The two embark on the long drive to attend the funeral of Lulu’s former trainer meeting people along the way that know how to bring out her sweet side (as opposed to her Ford Bronco upholstery eating side) and Briggs begins to catch feelings for the canine as they traverse the Pacific Coast Highway.

"You're definitely not the girl I thought I'd be in the tub with," Briggs tells Lulu as they soap up in their shared bath, mid-journey. "But I'll take what I can get at this point, I guess."

Tatum began sharing news about the film back in September of 2020, writing on Instagram, “It’s already been a crazy ride. And we’ve only just begun. And if we survive the rest, it will be one of the most insane stories that I’ve ever been a part of,” he said. “And I’ve been a part of some pretty crazy ones in this life of mine. This photo is from our first day of production on the first movie that my partner Reid and I are directing. This is our story. It’s taken us two years to get it to the starting line. The next eight weeks will be like riding a bull on sickmode in ludicrous speed. God be with us. In Dog we trust.”

His co-writer and director Carolin said that the pair were inspired by their own dogs (the dog in the film is named after Tatum’s IRL pup). “Wrapped principal photography on @dogthefilm today,” wrote Carolin on Instagram last fall. “This OG, Gabo (the king of the side-eye) and @channingtatum’s pup, Lulu, are where it all began for us. Sending love to them and to Nuke, Benno, Layka, Mika, and Pepper, for sending us on this journey.”
