Before you take to Twitter to voice your outrage over the remake of an iconic comedy, let us stop you right there. The new remake of The Princess Bride is more of an homage to the 1987 film than a big budget regurgitation that loses the sparkle and magic of the original. Plus, it’s something new to watch now that most people have exhausted all their viewing options over the past three months.Quibi’s latest project includes big names like Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Common and Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka and Chris Pine and Annabelle Wallis. The real-life couples filmed their scenes while in isolation, and were directed by Jason Reitman, who instructed the actors on how to capture their scenes by filming on their smartphones.Starting June 29, Quibi will release daily chapters of the film over a two-week period. A first-look at the film was already shared on Friday by Vanity Fair and shows Jonas as Princess Buttercup and Turner as The Man In Black, who must valiantly and bravely fight off a ROUS (rodent of unusual size). It’s their super cute corgi. A second chapter has also been released and shows new couple Common and Haddish as Westley and Buttercup, who share a sweet kiss before saying their painful goodbyes. Josh Gad steps in for Fred Savage as The Grandson and Rob Reiner is The Grandfather, who is reading what would definitely be described as a ‘kissing’ story. According to Variety, Savage is expected to also make an appearance during one of the episodes. Hugh Jackman also released his chapter, which shows the Tony-winning actor as Prince Humperdink. Jackman addresses his followers as Humperdink from the top of his castle. Well, from the top of a lifeguard tower that overlooks a lot of Legos. Zazie Beatz and Jennifer Garner also appear, with Garner making good use of her children’s stuffed animals.

The new project benefits World Central Kitchen, an organization that has been instrumental in providing food for those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Elijah Wood, Jon Hamm, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges, Jenna Ortega, Jack Black, David Oyelowo, Keegan-Michael Key, Patton Oswalt, Andy Serkis, Diego Luna, Taika Waititi and more celebrities are expected to appear in their own scenes.Rumblings of a Princess Bride remake were floated around last year and quickly shut down by Cary Elwes, who played Westley in the original film. Elwes teamed up with his Buttercup co-star Robin Wright in April to announce the addition of The Princess Bride to Disney Plus. The lovebirds had a virtual reunion that was funny and sweet and everything you want when Westley and Buttercup are on screen together. The Princess Bride remake marks the second time Jonas and Turner have teamed up together for Quibi. The couple and new parents-to-be previously appeared together on an episode of Cup of Joe, a travel series that follows the musician around the world as he embarks on new adventures with his famous friends. Turner also appears in the Quibi series Survive, which stars the Game of Thrones actor as a woman named Jane who must survive alone after crashing onto a remove, snow-covered mountain.
