Whoa, Pete Davidson might host the Oscars

The Academy Awards ceremony hasn’t had a host in three years (after Kevin Hart was chosen, and then unceremoniously unchosen, for the 2019 Oscars). Since then, the pandemic and a host (ahem) of other reasons have prevented the nearly century-old institution from having a headliner. Now, it would appear ol’ Oscar is ready to have a host again, and all signs are pointing to Saturday Night Live cast member and serial boyfriend Pete Davidson. 

Yesterday, Oscar’s official Twitter account asked a purely hypothetical question: who do we want as a host . . .  hypothetically. Twitter of course gave a bunch of hypothetical answers.

High on the list were of course Spider-Man hunk, and Zendaya side-piece, Tom Holland. But reports this morning suggest that the SNL funnyman, and perpetual boyfriend, Pete Davidson has taken the lead. 

“His people are talking to producers,” a source told Page Six, adding that his NYE hosting duties alongside Miley Cyrus garnered 6.3 million viewers for NBC. 

“He gets a demographic that is hard to get,” the source continued. “He is in a good space, his career is doing well and he is on the rise. He is a sex symbol, unlikely, but he is big with a certain generation.”

Holland had previously been on Oscar’s list, after the Superman star told The Hollywood Reporter that he was interested in hosting, and that the Academy did in fact reach out to him about taking on the huge task. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and 2016 Oscars host Chris Rock are also reportedly on that list.

Now, Twitter is divided. Should it be everyone’s sexy boyfriend Pete or should it be future husband Tom? Or how about co-hosts?!

*shudders*

The Oscars are set to air on March 27th, and by the following day, we're sure to see headlines with rumours that Pete and Oscar and more than friends. Of course, his current main squeeze Kim Kardashian might have something to say about that. The two of them have seemed rather loved-up lately. They were spotted this week on a cute and casual pizza dinner date, and then cuddling when making a run to the drug store.

Go on Pete, live your best life and maybe we'll see on the Oscars stage in a few months.
