Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were one of our favourite Hollywood couples for quite some time after starring in the first movie in 2012. Even though they are no longer together, we love that they're still friends. And better yet, still texting.

The details around Spider-Man: No Way Home have, of course, been closely guarded as it (spoiler alert!) unites all three versions of Spider-Man, including Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield. As it turns out, Andrew is really good at keeping secrets, even in the face of intense pressure from his former flame.

"Emma kept on texting me. She was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about!’" he told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

He continued, laughing, "She was like, ‘Shut up, just tell me,’ And like, I honestly… I kept it going, even with her, it’s hilarious."

"And then she saw it and was like, ‘You’re a jerk!'”

Listen to the entire hour-long interview with Andrew below.

Even though Andrew and Tobey Maguire's return might have been the worst-kept secret in Hollywood (admit it, we all knew!), Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios went to great lengths to try and keep people guessing, even keeping both Andrew and Tobey's images from marketing materials and press releases.

Emma and Andrew dated for four years, beginning with the filming of The Amazing Spider-Man and lasting until 2015. Their appearances together on talk shows were the stuff of legends, and they had an incredible rapport that fans loved.

Even after breaking up, the pair would often speak fondly of each other. In 2021, Andrew told Variety about filming The Amazing Spider-Man, "It was only beautiful. I got to meet Emma and work with her and Sally Field.”

In 2017, the Tick, Tick, Boom star said on Vanity Fair’s Little Gold Men podcast, “We care about each other so much, and that’s a given, that’s kind of this unconditional thing. There’s so much love between us and so much respect. … I’m her biggest fan as an artist. So for me, it’s been bliss to be able to watch her success and watch her bloom into the actress that she is. And it’s been wonderful to have that kind of support for each other.”

Emma Stone is now married to former SNL writer Dave McCary and they welcomed their first child in March 2021.
