In his career, Will Smith has come *thiiiiiiiiiis* close to winning an Oscar, especially when he retells the story of actual people, like he did in Ali or The Pursuit of Happyness. With the release of the trailer for his upcoming film King Richard, there is already hope that third time’s a charm, because this movie and his performance are already making people sob happy tears.

In King Richard, Smith plays Richard Williams, the driving force and motivator for his two young daughters who are trying to make it in the tennis world. Those two young daughters just so happen to be Venus and Serena Williams. You know, just the most talented and famous tennis champs of all time.

In just two minutes and thirty five seconds, the trailer takes us on an emotional whirlwind – beginning at the Williams home in Compton, and then through the years as Richard fights for his girls to play, participate, and compete, breaking down walls and lifting the glass ceiling.

“The most dangerous creature on this whole earth is a woman who knows how to think. Ain’t nothing she can’t do!” Smith as Richard says to Venus and Serena during one of the more emotional scenes.

“You gone be representing every little black girl on earth!”

Will Smith posted the trailer himself to his official YouTube channel, and even he drew comparisons to his previous Oscar-worthy biographical roles, writing, “One of the greatest honors as an actor is to be able to celebrate someone’s legacy while they’re still here creating it.  I’ve gotten to do it a few times in my career playing Chris Gardner and Muhammad Ali, and every time it’s a fulfilling and expansive experience beyond compare.”

And thus starts his official Oscars campaign.

“So now, I’m proud to show you all our first trailer for King Richard,” he continued, “the story of the man who introduced the world to @Venus Williams and Serena Williams. The origin story for some REAL DEAL superheroes!!”

The comments on social media are already hoping Smith takes home the coveted trophy.

The film also stars Saniyaa Sidney and Demi Singleton as Venus and Serena, Aunjanue Ellis as their mother Oracene “Brandi” Williams, and Jon Bernthal as coach Rick Macci. King Richard will simulteanously premiere in cinemas and on HBO Max on November 19.

We’re just hoping the movie recreates this iconic real life interview on ABC News with Venus when she was 14, where Richard interrupted the reporter for hounding his daughter over her confidence. We NEED this scene in our lives.
